Kel circles back to the piano. 'Yeah! Why not!' He sits back down on the bench and kicks his feet a bit, which must be intentional because his legs are definitely long enough to reach the floor. 'You used to play, right?'

Yet the bard must know somehow, in that intuitive way that children sometimes do. Playful and wise at the same time.Nevertheless, he hasn’t stayed away, yet. Sometimes they sit in silence, sometimes Xiao is content to listen to the Archon idly plucking his lyre or playing the flute. Whatever scraps of conversation they share seem to be enough for him, as he keeps returning.”

“‘Lucky for you,’ she grumbles, stepping over a sticky red mess that must be the remains of some kid’s popsicle. ‘Full offense, but it’s kind of disgusting here. Why did we come again?’ The smells of chlorine and dollar-store sunscreen linger in the air, and though the former is something she’s used to from the boy in front of her, having it so pervasive in this context is strange. It’s loud and crowded and overly playful, and it makes her realize just how much she’s associated swimming with him and just him.

"Except that when she went to stabilize him, she’d grabbed both of his hands, and instead of pulling away, he’d interlocked his fingers with hers. She’s connected to him at the palms now, skating backwards, keeping her demeanor cool while the inside of her head is wild with noise.
His hands are warm. She’s noticed that before; he’s always been super touchy, all hugs and pats on the back and linked arms. But now… she traces the lines where their fingers interlock with her gaze, an alternating pattern of tan and chrome. If she was hiding her blush successfully before, she isn’t doing it now."

“That’s when she turns, for the first time, and sees him from more than just her peripheral vision; he has a green glass bowl on his lap full of what must be the aforementioned Krispies, and a spoon in his hand. There’s a second spoon there, still sitting in the bowl.
She narrows her eyes. ‘You brought two?’
‘I saw you through the door and just figured that it’d be nice to share,’ he just shrugs. He picks up the second spoon with his other hand, balancing the bowl against his leg, and offers it to her.”
A one shot set the night after Jesse and Lake make their exit, and Lake begins adjusting to life off of the Train. In which words, thoughts, and a bowl of cereal are shared.
