Summary
History states that only two people have ever received Dr. Abraham Erskine's coveted super soldier serum. What only a few select souls from the 40s know is that another person received that serum. The first person to in fact- a young German Jewish man named Steve Rogers, who then became the ghost on the battlefield known as the Winter Soldier. What the history also fails to mention, is that Captain America, James Barnes, fell in love with his enemy. And once he wakes up after putting the Valkyrie into the ice, he just wants to be alone. Until a familiar face forces him to come out of retirement.

Summary
Steve Rogers has now woken up in 2012, where he has to adjust to a new world without his closest friends, and of course, Sam. He does it though, learning to deal with Tony Stark's brand of humor, high-speed technology, and SHIELD missions. Just when he starts adjusting and making new friends in this century, someone from his past comes back into his life, but it may not be the person he remembers...
Sam Wilson is the Winter Soldier. He is an effective asset, and he completes all his missions swiftly and efficiently, undetected. On his biggest mission yet, he meets someone who unlocks the missing gaps in his memory. He realizes that if he ever wants to reunite with the man, he will have to remember who he is.
AU where Sam and Bucky switch places, and Sam falls off the train and becomes the Winter Soldier.

Steve Rogers wants to join the army and his best friend (as well as secret crush) Sam Wilson at the height of World War 2. With his list of health problems, though, he is continuously rejected. All he needs is a chance. And hey, if he finds the chance to open to Sam, he'll do that too.
(AU where Sam, instead of Bucky, is Steve's childhood friend, and they fight in World War 2 together)
