Stede swallows hard. He tries to ignore the pang in his heart from Ed’s words and the heat stirring deep inside him from Ed’s tone, failing miserably at both.
“Yes, but I… I just said I don’t want to hurt—”
“Yeah, well, that’s too fucking bad, isn’t it? You already did, mate,” he bites out every syllable of the endearment that once sounded so casual and sweet coming from his mouth. Like he’s taunting Stede with it. “You fuckin’ left me. So the least you could do is make me fuckin’ feel something again.”
