When Wilbur blinks, his vision focuses. Tommy is crouching in front of him, and Wilbur sucks in a deep breath.
Now that the world is still again, Wilbur is acutely aware of the rapid pounding of his heart, the strum of panic in his veins.
He'd almost died, he realises belatedly.
But he hadn't. Because Tommy had saved him
-Wilbur doesn't want a guard—and he plans on making sure that Tommy knows it. Unfortunately, things change when Wilbur ends up getting more attached than he means to.

“Please,” Tommy tried, but he knew that the decision was already made.

Summary
Tommy had stormed away before they could continue to yell. Before they continued to fight. Before they continued to verbally tear each other apart the way they never did when they were kids.
But that was a long time ago.
Before Tommy became a burden. A strain on Wilbur’s life, health, finances.
(Because Wilbur did have a choice, really. He didn’t have to take Tommy in. Which means he still has a choice now—at any moment, he could decide to drop Tommy off into a system. It terrifies him. Like booming thunder and threats of a house fire, it terrifies him).
So when Tommy woke up the next day, head aching and nose running, he swore he wouldn’t let Wilbur know.

After an argument, Tommy decides to hide a sickness from Wilbur. Which means that when he passes out in the middle of a rainstorm, Techno is the one that has to take him home--but Tommy is incoherent, except for his insistence that he has been abandoned. It's up to Techno to decide if Tommy should make it home.

Summary
“Techno,” Tommy asks, resisting the urge to wring his hands together. “Why did you decide to do this? To start a bakery, I mean.”
Techno doesn’t pause at that, but his movements slow, for just a moment. His hands press into the dough below him with a slow and deep consistency. “Knew that one day, there’d be a ratty street kid starvin’ himself out here.”
“I was not ratty,” Tommy grumbles, crossing his arms and glaring.
This gets Techno to pause, turning to deadpan at Tommy with his eyebrow raised.
“I was not!”
“You still are,” Techno rumbles, turning back to his dough. From the mouth of almost anyone else, it would be mean and bitter. From Techno, it only sounds fond.

Tommy is a street kid, stealing whatever the Emerald Bakery leaves out to cool. But what happens when they start leaving food out on purpose? And what happens when they take Tommy in?

Summary
The next day, Tommy stood at the entrance, trying his best not to break down crying again with his social worker standing next to him. He watched as his brother began to leave the building, a bag on his back and a phone in his hand.
He watches as Wilbur turns around for the final time and sends him one last wave, a sad smile on his lips. Tommy sends a small one back as his face begins to scrunch up, biting the bottom of his lip to stop the tears from forming in the corners of his eyes.
And then just like that, Wilbur was gone. Leaving the foster system permanently.
If only Tommy knew back then that he wasn’t going to come back.

It's been seven years since Tommy had last saw Wilbur, two years since he found out that his brother was a vampire and a part of coven. Originally, Tommy was fine with never seeing the other again, having made his own family in the form of his two best friends.
Everything is normal until he one day receives a phone call from Wilbur. After that things begin to spiral downhill, and Tommy finds himself dragged into something dangerous and out of his control.
