Summary
“Thanks Audrey!”
Gwen called over her shoulder as she left the kitchens, balancing three plates on one arm and cradling a jug of steaming mulled wine in the other. The ornate metal jug kept her chest warm as she crossed into the courtyard. Its steam mingled with her breath as they both rose into the night sky, carved out by the biting cold of the night. The bleak midwinter night had settled into each crevice of the castle at five o’clock that day, signalling to Gwen that soon the days would begin stretching again, chasing the frigid, prolonged, gloomy nights away. As much as this idea enticed her with memories of spending long days in the sun with Morgana; eating berries ripe with sweet, sticky, vivid juice that collected in the creases of her lips; taking breaks at cool lakes while on long horse rides and pretending not to watch as Morgana’s silk dress slipped gracefully from her shoulders and down the slopes of her back; Gwen knew that she would miss how easy it was to see Morgana by candlelight.Or
Morgana catches Gwen in her room and things escalate from there…
