Almost simultaneously, the front half of the train dislodges from the first and completes its nosedive to the bottom of the ravine, and the back half explodes.
This, the train decides, has made its point.
Two people climb out of the train wreck in unfortunately opposite places. Lewis encounters Ingo's doppelganger, and Ingo encounters a young man who somehow manages to top his own penchant for saying inscrutable nonsense with a straight face.

Summary
As part of Almighty Sinnoh's gift to its ten noble bloodlines, it granted them an ability that would bridge the divide between them and their human wardens: to become one in body as well as spirit, to share a mind and form as one. A gift the humans termed fusion. That gift became a requirement: to prove they had the ability to work together, a prospective Warden must spend a full day-and-night cycle in this fusion with their Noble, doing their duties as normal.
Irida, forgive her for saying, is getting a little tired of finding every offered Warden to Lady Sneasler dismissed and discarded, even the ones that had made it through every previous trial. Which is why she has little hope that a stranger from the sky will succeed when others have failed.

Summary
Like most of the modern trappings of Pokémon partnership—Pokéballs, the Pokédex—the idea of a starter Pokémon is believed to have begun in Crisis-era Sinnoh, with Jubilife. Prior to this era, it was not unheard of for people to form partnerships with Pokémon, but such relationships were considered the exception rather than the norm—particularly for children—and those Pokémon were still largely wild creatures that simply walked alongside humans.
...Here’s a fact that might surprise you! The first Pokémon type ever to have been domesticated and raised by humans is believed to be Bug-type. They’re easy to catch and easier to raise, as any bug fanatic will be able to tell you!
(Or: in pursuit of trying to solve the mystery of why Wurmple evolves, the Survey Corps builds a bug house. They never do figure out the Evolution question, but they do discover something arguably more important.)

Arthur carries a Swiss Army knife with him, an emergency tool that's come in handy for many a locked door or mysterious box. Nothing on it is particularly lethal. The actor doesn't bother looking for the knife, just flips it out into the scissors.
