From the moment Astarion first laid eyes on Aaliya, he was confident he had her measure: she was a self-righteous paladin, an idealist fool. A hero, some might call her.
But he'd learned the hard way that heroes were for fairy tales. No one had ever cared enough to save him, after all.
Still, she could be useful. If he told her every pretty thing she wanted to hear and made her fall for him, maybe she would offer him some protection. Maybe he could even get her to care about him long enough to help him kill Cazador and put an end to all of his fears permanently.
And if he could break her heart at the end of it all, once he had everything he needed from her, even better.
At least, that was the plan.

Former C-Sec officer and Spectre dropout Garrus Vakarian dropped everything to follow Tessa Shepard across the galaxy. It's exactly the opportunity he was hoping for to do some good without red tape holding him back, but it's not quite what he was expecting; for a Spectre, Shepard has a lot of rules. They may not see eye-to-eye on everything, but maybe they can both afford to bend a little.
