Summary
So… Enjin knows himself, and he knows he is not someone suited to dealing with children. Piercing cries, overwhelming tantrums, and the strange language they seem to speak all confuse him, wear down his patience, and -at worst- make him feel useless and out of place. Sickness to Beldaruit was like an old friend. He’s lived with its presence beside him all his life. Used to recovering from it in a careful solitude, until he’s offered warmth and soup.
“I didn’t wish to needlessly worry you.” Beldaruit sighs, “My health should not be such a concern for you. After all, you have your own student to worry about now.”
“Not a concern for me? What, are you going to tell a child not to worry about their father?” It takes a beat for Qifrey to realize what he said, his cheeks flushing red as he looks away.

“Do you know why the rule about apprentices being able to choose their own master came about?” Master Qifrey said at last, turning to look down at her. He pulled a comb out of his pocket and gestured for her to shift closer. She turned so he could begin very very gently teasing out the knots in her hair as he spoke.
Qifrey caused a lot of trouble during his time as an apprentice in the Great Hall. Not all of it was intentional however. When Beldaruit falls ill, Qifrey is told he cannot stay alone, and a new master will have to be found for him.

Summary
It doesn't rain in Khaenri'ah.
Not like this at least, with harsh, freezing drops of water pelting down from a dark, clouded sky that hurt Kaeya's skin and soak through his clothes. And definitely not rain accompanied by brilliant flashes of light, and crashes of startling sound that seem to shake the very earth. No, nothing like that.
But it did rain fire in Khaenri'ah once.
(Or, a Kaeya character study loosely centered around his interactions and experience with fire and flames of various types.)
