Summary
Bode Akuna works alone. He might not be the best Jedi Knight, but he’s a pretty good Shadow, for all that the work eats away at his conscience when he sometimes leans in to the darker side of the Force. It’s a necessity he’s reluctantly accepted; war is never clean and his actions save more lives than he takes. He’s following orders.
But when Order 66 goes out while he’s docked with the Brave, he ends up with an unexpected charge on an unfamiliar planet, and that changes everything— for both him and Cal Kestis.

Summary
Bode isn't mate material. No matter how much he wishes otherwise, he's kriffing proved that he isn't, leaving Tayala behind. Leaving his own pup in the hands of the same Empire that slaughtered her mother because he isn't strong enough to protect their baby girl without offering up his own neck in submission. He knows he's a shit alpha, a terrible mate, a worse father.

Summary
“Thank you,” the woman breathes with obvious relief. She's sliding down the fallen floor a few seconds later, debris skittering away under her hurried boots as she drops to Bode's side on the floor. “You cut that too close, Cal. You already shot him.”
Cal opens his mouth to speak, flummoxed, when another voice cuts in from above.
“My first shot wasn't fatal,” says the voice, calm and measured and tired. Hearing it sends a chill down his spine, coming from a different place than it ought to. “Bode taught me to double tap for a reason. I can heal him.”
Looking into his own eyes without the glint of a mirror is… dizzying.

Summary
His skull aches. Cal operates on autopilot, the same way he does when he falls hard. He gets up. He keeps moving, even as the world tips a little to the side, even when there's stars sparking at the corners of his vision.
There's one lesson he never lost with the fall of the Order; when you fall down, you get back up. Cal applies that wisdom every day. This isn't any different. He's breathing, so he's moving.

I’m going to kill you, he mouths at Bode. He can almost see the ghost of his own reflection in the glass, the yellow in his eyes barely visible for all the blue he’s trapped in. Bode’s are still brown beyond the bacta, dark and familiar. Cal hates that they are, that despite all the death he’s caused, there’s no telltale ring of sickly yellow to indicate how he’s fallen. Not like Cal did.

The fever that cloaks him around noon is slightly less explainable. It's not bad, just… warm.

He can't keep this up. The sound of them is drawing closer with his aching leg not bending right or holding his weight the way it ought to. They've split into two groups and he's running on empty— he's injured, he's weak, still raw from shock and unable to control the Force like he's been trained to.
Worse, he realizes with a pang, they've driven him further into the ship.

The expression on Cal’s face, the gold-green of his eyes as he looks down at him in rage as Bode freezes on the ground, the discordant hum of his lightsaber as it heats the air near his throat, then kisses it, then burns the breath right out of him as Kata sobs— it’s the last thing he sees.
Then Bode blinks. The sky above him is bright and cascading with color. There’s a weight on his arm, tucked in against his chest, warm and shifting softly in sleep— Kata. There’s no pain, no sobbing, no volcanic aura oozing anger into the Force. He can breathe in the glittering pollen easily without a lightsaber caressing his throat.
The pollen tastes like ash in his mouth.

He cracks open his own bottle of water and takes a sip, then continues, “or Lank wouldn't be losing more of his hair trying to break you. But when I tell you to drink, you gotta drink, Kestis.”
Cal snorts. “What,” he croaks, “I have to get better so you can be the one to break me instead?”
Akuna pauses for a moment, then shrugs and nods. “Pretty much.”

It looks like a handsome guy spread out on one of the antique beds the man is definitely not supposed to be touching, in a room he shouldn't be in during this Christmas party, while wearing only (objectively, very nice) lacey red underwear, trying to take a selfie... all of which could mean nothing.
“These rooms are off limits for guests at this hour,” Bode tells him, because he knows his lines by heart and he tends to run on autopilot after 9 PM or so. “The antique furniture? Doubly so.”
