Shane sleeps, adorably, half on his stomach with his face nearly off the pillow. He didn’t need to get up as early as Ilya. You don’t need to get up as early just to drive someone to the airport.
It’s 3 am. Ilya’s flight is at 7:30 and they still need to make the two-hour drive.

The confusion sits there the entire time he’s chewing, looking at Shane expectantly. When Shane doesn’t say anything else, he swallows down his mouthful with a swig of beer and smacks his lips obnoxiously.
“Use for what?”
“Sex,” Shane says. He keeps his volume level, resists the urge to drop into a whisper. It feels so wrong to say this sort of stuff with the sunlight on his back. “I want you to use me for sex.”

Ilya laughs lightly, endeared by Shane's choice of words, “As if you would know.”
“Fuck you, I’ve watched porn.”
Ilya turns to face him, a look of pleased incredulity painted on his features. He watches as Shane processes what he just said and then shakes his head as if to rid himself of the trance. Shane both hates and loves these moments when Ilya gets him to say ludicrous things in his own defense. As if he even needs to defend himself.
Shane and Ilya talk about personal finance, porn and they are in love.

Svetlana invites him over when her father is away, and he kisses her on top of her quilted bedspread, hard from the feel of her under his hands and, a little bit, from the anticipation of the beating he’ll get if the Minister walks in on him. She scratches her fingers through his hair afterwards and he traces letters into the skin above her knee.
So when he gets the impulse to buy Hollander flowers, he doesn’t hesitate. Maybe it’s because Hollander is so cute with his little freckles. Maybe because he gets irritated so easily, that flush spilling down his collarbones to his chest. Maybe Ilya just wants to reward him for opening the door after that CCM shoot, or for letting Ilya suck his dick after the All-Stars even with Scott Hunter next door.

Summary
When he presses the button on the doorbell, he hears the digitally-produced ding-dong echo from inside. There is a tiny box halfway up the adjacent wall that immediately beeps and emits Shane’s voice.
“Hey, you can just leave it on the step, thanks.”
Ilya presses his nose into the digital doorbell, which he knows to also contain a camera, and says, “Shane.”
A pause.
“What the fuck.”
A brief cacophony of noise that Ilya can hear even from outside the house. The multiple successive thumps of something falling, Shane swearing loudly and the sound of what can only be a hockey game being paused on the television.
He opens the door to reveal that he is nap-rumpled, wearing two pairs of socks and carrying a child in his arms. The only really surprising part is that the socks don’t match, though the child is interesting.Ilya takes an impromptu trip to Montreal. There are unforeseen consequences.
