In this timeline, Max is gone by the time Grace stumbled onto the football field. He’d been ripped from this plane of existence, leaving no trace he’d ever been there to begin with. No trace, except for the trail of bodies and mourning families.
No trace, except for the corpse Steph cradled in her arms.
or: Max doesn't arrive in time to save Pete. Steph makes another deal. Grace is sort of just along for the ride.
