Summary
The war is over.
When King Cepheus of Arzawa attempts to invade the Kykladic Islands, he is unprepared for the ferocity and skill of the soldiers and mariners who defend their homeland, and for the raw, wild power of Perseus, the young prince who commands them.
Forced to retreat in defeat, he now desperately treats for peace with Perseus and his retinue of aligned lords in an encampment on the island of Naxos. He has agreed to pay tribute to the prince, but now, in the final stages of discussion, the topic turns to the matter of King Cepheus’ armies, who are camped on the far side of the island. What is to be done with them? What must be offered to Perseus to assuage his wrath, to prevent him from raising the fury of the seas in one final act of vengeance?
Cepheus only has one treasure remaining to barter with - his daughter, the beautiful princess Andromeda.
Will he sacrifice her to the prince of white waves, offering his own flesh and blood to that always-ravenous monster of the depths?

The gods break promises all the time. Percy knows this. He himself is the result of one such broken oath.
The gods are cruel, and cowardly, and petty. Yes. Percy knows this well.
Percy could swear them to anything and what guarantee would he have that they would keep their promise? Even something as seemingly simple as freeing Calypso he could not trust them to do. No. He would not have them swear an oath. He would become one of them, accept Zeus’s offer, and he would force change from the inside. He would do it. He has to.
He promised Luke he would.
This, Percy thinks, he will swear to himself on the River Styx. He will become a god and he will force the change needed.
Even if it means leaving behind the one he loves.

Annabeth is a soloist at NYC Ballet and Percy is a soloist at American Ballet Theater, also in New York. Although Percy and Annabeth are good friends, they keep their professional lives separate. That all changes when NYCB and ABT decide to work together to put on a special series of performances, and Percy and Annabeth are cast to perform a pas de deux together. Working together, and therefore sharing the highs and lows of creating a great performance, takes their relationship to the next level.
