Barty is like a drowning man coming up for air and Evan is the air. They don’t tend to do things gently anymore, so Evan matches his pace and intensity without missing a beat.

Summary
Christmas, a family occasion, and Sirius spends it voluntarily alone.
He thinks about Euphemia Potter, and how she held him and hushed him like a panicked child after a nightmare the night he escaped from the Grimmauld Place. How she tended to his wounds with care in her fingertips and unexpressed anger towards Walburga and Orion Black. How she never pushed him to tell anything about how the night went down, she listened if Sirius opened his mouth but never blamed him for not doing so. Instead she taught him Muggle board games – James’ idea – and they all played them until early morning, until Sirius was ready to take Dreamless Sleep and try resting.
He’s never going to have that again, not after having treated Euphemia Potter’s son like a toy that you can entertain yourself with until you’re bored and then toss into the corner of the floor. That was never the intention but it ended up happening. He did James Potter wrong and he knows it.
OR
Sirius Black has no faith in himself, is obsessed with pinecones and Regulus Black tries being nice for once. Yeah. Tries.
