Summary
Lance, or as he was better known, Prince Lorenzo Esteban Osvaldo, was crown prince of the island paradise known as Altea. He spoke seven languages, had private tutors, and everything he could ask for, including a bad attitude. He never asked to be the crown prince, never wanted it, so when he saw his chance to get out and see the world, he took it. Only problem was, he landed himself in the middle of Texas.
Keith, on the other hand, was a student working his way through college, keeping his head down and minding his own business. He was happy doing work and school and not much else, but then he gets saddled with a lazy lab partner for a class he absolutely needs to graduate, and he's failing Spanish.
Fortunately, for Lance and Keith both, they find that their differences are not quite as dire as they seemed to be.

At twenty-four, Lance isn't where he'd expected to be, working some mindless job at a decent company, bored out of his mind and trying not to feel like the tedium was slowly choking him to death. So when he gets the opportunity to transfer to a position all the way out in California, he jumps at the chance. With all his life packed in his car, he's ready to leave.
But then, Shiro calls in a favor, and suddenly he's got an unexpected guest on his grand, solo, cross-country road trip. He and Keith could barely stand to be in the same room together in college, and he doubts that three years apart will have made a huge difference. But being stuck in a car for days on end with his ex-rival leads to some unexpected discoveries, on both sides.

“Then why don’t you?” Keith all but whispered, keeping his eyes trained straight ahead, the hints of a flush apparent on his cheeks.
Lance glanced at Keith from the corner of his eyes, the other boy’s indigo eyes sparkling purple in the moonlight. Because you could very easily break my heart, Lance thought. Because you’re not staying and I’m stuck, and I can’t do that again.
“Because I think we could be really good friends,” he said instead, pulling his feet back away from the water.-----
