Summary
Mike grins at him again, and Will wants to lean forward and kiss it. He could, he’s close enough. Right here in the Upside Down, he could kiss the love of his life. But it’s not time yet. Will knows this with certainty.
After we win, Will thinks to himself, a silent promise. After we win, I’ll tell you I love you.
-----
Or, all the times will and mike say i love you, until the time they actually say it.

Summary
Mike hates this time of year.
The leaves have all fallen, covering the ground like puzzle pieces in their rightful places, so the trees are bare, naked, and dead. It hasn’t yet snowed to round out the rugged edges of the town; there are still sharp edges everywhere Mike looks — and trust him, he looks — and it feels like the atmosphere is eternally toying with him by turning dark with rumbling clouds, only to dissipate within an hour. It also gets dark at four p.m. for no reason other than to piss him off.
The world is, Mike decides, no better now than it was when it was ending.
mike's been living in hawkins since the world stopped ending, even though his friends left him behind.
well, maybe living isn't the right word.Bookmarked by thriftedstars

Summary
Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

Summary
“Whoa, hey, just lie back.” Will scoots up so he can push Mike’s shoulders. Mike crumples with barely any effort, elbows giving out. Will catches the back of his head and sets it carefully on a child sized mattress that’s been here since 1983. The first time. Will shivers.
“You cold?” Mike asks, lulling his head to look at Will. His lids are drooping; he’s clearly struggling to stay conscious, yet still somehow has the capacity to catch Will shivering. Jesus. He’s so. Just so.
In the aftermath of the painting fight, Will gets taken. Mike rescues him, and they narrowly escape Vecna’s lair at a cost: Mike is injured. And it could get much worse if Will doesn’t figure something out fast.

Summary
“Don’t worry, I’ll do it,” Mike protests weakly, but Will ignores him. “You need to rest, yeah,” he continues softly, swallowing audibly at the thought of Will’s fingers on him again.
“I want to take care of—” Will mumbles, fumbling for gauze and bandages, his focus wavering. Mike notices the flush creeping up Will’s cheeks, bright and vivid against his otherwise pale, tired skin. And it warms something inside Mike, just a little, because Will wants to take care of him.
or; Mike is confused, and maybe Will offering to take care of his wounds after their encounter with Vecna only makes things worse.
