The title pretty much summons up the whole fic.
Name pretty much says it all. This is a rewrite from the finale of Stranger Things. However I will write more than just the finale. I'm just not sure if it will be in this story or if I will make separate works for that. We will see.

Summary
In the year of 1993, Mike Wheeler is invited to Los Angeles California for the holidays by his friends when they notice Mike struggling to deal with the terms of his divorce to Eleven and the manuscript he hasn't been able to write— in over a year.
There he sees Will again. Thriving in all senses in life, looking better than the day of his wedding. The last day he saw him. In the throes of missed phone calls, cigarettes and fire— he thinks that maybe, there is more to their story than what he led himself to believe.
That, or they are better off as just strangers.

Summary
Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

Summary
Anyways, after weeks of battle and braverism, I did find it, and it turned out to be a letter for you! At the time, I didn’t understand the reason why he wrote a letter for you, when you literally live with him. I was like, I know my brother can be dumb sometimes, but I didn’t know he was that dumb.
However, with a little more searching, I founded, like, a TON of them for you! They were under his bed. And, I know these were the reasons why he was crying, but still, I don’t get why they make him unhappy, when you’re the person who makes him the happiest and the best!
I really reallyyyy hope you guys didn’t fight. I hate when you two fight. Mike gets too grumpy and whiny.
So, to help you and Mike, in whatever situation you are, I’m sending all of them to you. Read them with care and with an open mind, I’m sure they’re special.

Summary
The moment Mike Wheeler realised Vecna was targeting him, he accepted that he was going to die.
Mike hated November.
November was when Will went missing.
November was possession and hospitals.
November was watching Will’s body being dragged out of the quarry, pale and lifeless, while Mike’s world split cleanly in two.November was cursed. At least, that was what Mike told himself.

Will’s hand lifted as though he might reach, eyes suddenly bright with unshed tears. “You think I haven’t tried to hate you?!”
That stopped Mike from saying the thing on the edge of his tongue, the thing they both knew very well here in this hospital room.
Will’s voice rose. “You think I haven’t tried? Every time you act like this, like you don’t even like me at all! Like, we haven’t been friends for almost our whole lives! When you throw me away! You don’t get to decide how I feel, Mike. You don’t get to make me the villain in whatever story you’ve made up in your head!”
Mike stared at him, jaw tight, throat constricted. He didn’t know what to say—only that whatever he managed would probably be inadequate.
Will was trembling, fists clenched at his sides. “I’ve spent years trying. You didn’t care. After what you did, I tried to convince myself our entire friendship was fake! And you know what? It didn’t work! Because I do care. I’ve cared my entire fucking life. And that doesn’t just stop, no matter what. I can’t hate you, no matter what you do.”
Mike’s throat felt like hot glass.

“Because I need a nude model,” Will emphasized, putting his head in his hands.

Summary
There’s a lot to think about in the End-of-Days, if Mike is being honest. Will is being targeted by Vecna, and the Party had been noticing spots in the woods that make terrible thrumming noises and emanate Upside-Down-spores in huge puffs. Plus, ever since that night in the pizza dough cooler, El has been avoiding Mike, speaking in stilted phrases and hiding in her room, blasting rock music.
Despite these more serious concerns, Mike can’t focus on any of it, because there are two facts that he was decidedly not supposed to know that he had somehow discovered, which kept turning Mike on his head, over and over again:
One, Will Byers is gay.
And, coming much later, in a much more disorienting sweep off his feet:
Will Byers has a crush on him.
(or, Mike secretly overhears that Will likes him, and doesn’t know how to act. This all somehow leads to Mike finding out that El believes that she will forever be wrong, violent, and unable to love and be loved; and, centrally, Mike does a lot of staring at Will with his new rifle).

Summary
Mike's life is split in three categories; the life he should have, the life he wants to have, and the life he has to have. Currently, he's living in limbo between all three; he'll never have that white-picket fence and suburban wife, not when the only girl he could try to love has left him, and while he's finding it harder to live the life he has to have— the life where he hides himself so deep, not even the people he loves know who he is— he'll never get the life he wants, either.
Limbo sucks, to put it simply. He's so close to what he wants (which is Will, no matter how hard he tries to shove it down) but he just can't push past that barrier and talk to Will, not when everything he does always feels wrong.
But, maybe, Mike might come to learn that what he wants isn’t so bad, after all.
(Or; Mike's struggle with his internalized homophobia— among other things, including the concept of free will, Robin Buckley's mildly terrifying presence, and wanting things Mike's sure he doesn't deserve— structured around the five stages of grief. You can mourn a life you'll never live, and you can mourn someone you haven't actually lost.)

- With Mike still on hormones, the idea of biological kids had to be deliberate, planned, but with both of them finally out of college and satisfied on that front- Mike, with his creative writing and film double major and physics minor, and Will, with his art major and psychology minor, both sporting degrees from these things- they'd spent a year putting up savings and talking near constantly about it.
Now, at twenty-seven years old, they'd be having their first child: a girl, Felicity Wheeler-Byers. -
