“I love you with each bone of my body, each string of my heart and each inch of my soul” he whispered, and it took one second for Anne’s eyes to fill with tears. Yet, she chuckled a little.
“That’s a very doctor-ish thing to say. Even though I must let you know that, as far as I believe, the soul is not measurable in inches because it expands infinitely.”
Gilbert stared at her for a moment, eyes switching between hers, before speaking again.
“That’s why I love you with each inch of it.”
When Anne and Gilbert somehow end up sharing their own complicated universes and finding solace in each other, they realize being together won’t be that easy. But strength is stronger than fear, love is bigger than hate. It will take sacrifice, but it will be worth it.

Gilbert Blythe is not exactly a take-notice kind of guy.
Which, of course, doesn’t mean he doesn’t take notice, he just keeps it to himself. He likes details, and he loves to keep them pressed onto his mind and heart, for himself only to appreciate. For instance, he adores the way hands are made precisely to intertwine, or the way sunflowers turn towards the sun by themselves, or also the way snowflakes are so undeniably perfect, or the way Anne’s freckles are scattered exactly like little stars, not one of them being out of place.
He notices it all.

Summary
Something was changing. It was subtle, like the seasons or the tides, ebbing and changing so gradually that it was hard to tell that anything had changed at all until you were completely surrounded by it. There were signs though, that indicated that something was happening. Like the first warm breeze of spring after days of unending cold, there were moments that Anne could simply not deny that something was happening between her and Gilbert, that the ice was melting around their simple friendship and blossoming into something more.
