Summary
John B gets to work cleaning up the blood on JJ’s face and disinfecting the cuts. Distantly, his brain tells him that JJ probably has bruises all over his body, but John B can’t take this all at once, so he focuses on JJ’s face for now. And fuck, up close, JJ’s eyes are so, so blue. Even battered and bruised, he’s fucking beautiful. No, John B thinks, and shoves those feelings, whatever they are, into the same dark corner he’s been putting them in for months. It’s not like that, it’ll never be like that.

Theo should be dead.
There really was no easy way to say it: Theo should be dead. He lives in his truck, barely even eats, gets on average two hours of sleep every night, runs solely on that coffee from that diner that he shouldn’t keep going to but will because the owner there at least seems like she cares, and Theo doesn’t have a lot of people who do that, so he’ll take what he can get. Basically, what Theo’s getting at is that there is no reason in the fucking world that he should be alive right now.

Summary
“I don’t pity myself, Liam. I’m here because I deserve this and I want to be here.”
That was true.
“Really?” Liam wanted to know, sounding like he didn’t believe a thing that came out of Theo’s mouth. “You want to live in your truck? You want to be hungry? Have no place to shower or feel safe? This is pathetic.”
“I want to pay for what I did, Liam!” Something in Theo snapped. His calm and composure broke and he couldn’t help but yell at Liam.
Liam stared at Theo, squinting a little like Theo was a puzzle he couldn’t quite put together.
“It sounds like you already have,” Liam said, considerably bitter, after a calculated moment and started to get out of the truck."
The world is a cruel place, and Theo knows this. He's faced its brutality and bears the scars on the inside of his body as proof of that. It builds up to a point though, where Theo's wounds can no longer sew themselves back together, and all he's left with is a gaping hole in his body where he knows his heart is supposed to sit.
