It’s reliving, in a way. At this point, it almost seemed as if there was nothing before this, and nothing after.
So when the man pulls again, throwing him out the back and into a clearing of grass, he doesn’t think of the injuries that burn his body.
He thinks of the fallen leaves touching his cheek as his body rolls to a stop. The scent of water by a stream. The soft dirt on the edges of his palms.
The last thing he sees is the sky above him, an unimaginable bright blue.
And after that-
a man in a wide brimmed hat, rolling his eyes.
