Turning his gaze back onto Chrissy, he could see her giving Jess a deliberate once-over. There’s a kind smile on her face, but Eddie could see that thing he can’t pinpoint in her eyes again. She reached up to grab his hand that was dangling from her shoulder and she intertwined their fingers together while her other arm tightened around his waist.
“Jess.” She tested the name out before her smile widened and that sweetness was still there in her tone, but he heard a certain edge to it too. It surprised him. He never heard that tone come out of her before. “It’s so nice to meet you. I’m Chrissy. I’m Eddie’s girlfriend.”
She said ‘girlfriend’ with purpose. Eddie heard that clearly and his brain was starting to connect the dots. A heat formed in the pit of his stomach and his skin began to tingle.

His brain short-circuited and he just stared at her openly concerned face. She was holding what looked like a grocery bag. Then reality rushed back to him and he very clearly remembered that he was wrapped up in his blanket and he was sure he looked like absolute shit.
“Chrissy!” He finally wheezed out before a fit of coughs attacked him. Thankfully, he had the mind to cover his mouth with his blanket before he coughed his germs all over her.
