Summary
Lena is dead and Kara is completely, utterly lost. This is the story of how she deals with it, finds her voice and eventually starts to heal.
This story follows the same time frame of Killing Time (the other story in this series), this time told from Kara’s perspective. It can be read alone, before or after it. Canon until about halfway through season 5.
“You just cried for two hours straight and then had a panic attack” Alex persists.
“I loved her.” Kara shrugs, as if that realization hadn’t completely demolished her.
“I know you did, I loved her too and I’m devastated by her death, but with your history... It might’ve hit you harder.” Alex gets up too and puts a hand on Kara’s back.
“No, Alex.” Kara smiles weakly at her sister, “I loved her.”Series

“Nervous, Lena?”
It was clear that the blonde was amused - but her eyes weren’t mocking. If anything, they seemed quite understanding, and Lena tried to shake off some of the tension that she was feeling.
Young doesn’t mean incompetent, Lena thought to herself, thinking of the conversation Kara had with the student earlier. She literally flies all the time… “Yeah,” Lena confessed. “Not a fan of flying. I’ve never been in one of these small planes.”
Kara picked up the keys that Winn had placed on the counter, along with her bag and the second headset.
“I’ll take good care of you,” Kara said.

“Shit, sorry Alex, you just took so long and –“ Finally, bright blue eyes track up Lena’s bare legs and silk robe all the way to her face, widening comically.
“You…are not Alex.”

The longer Lena stands in her bedroom, her still-wet hair slowly dripping onto the hardwood, the more she wonders whether screaming will make her feel any better. She’s been waiting for this phone call for the last twenty-four hours and now she's staring at the missed call banner. Somehow she already knows that calling back isn’t going to work out in her favor, so instead she closes her eyes and clicks on the voicemail.
“Hi Lena, this is Kara Danvers! I got your messages, all seven of them. I’m so sorry that we didn’t have a chance to sit down this week in person, although it sounds like you’ve had your hands full at work. I have some stuff I need to take care of before we leave, so I’ll have to meet you at the airport. Since I’m cutting it a little close, I’ll send a courier to pick up my ticket from you this afternoon. And Lena? Take a deep breath. This is all going to be fine. Your ex-fiancée will wish she’d never left you and your family will think we’re in love. Trust me. Look, I’ve got to go, but I’ll see you at the airport. Can’t wait to meet you.”

Summary
It isn’t The Wizard of Oz that pierces through whatever walls Kara has placed around her heart, nor is it Singing In The Rain, or even West Side Story. No, it’s Oklahoma! that blindsides her, leaves her sobbing into her throw pillow until her voice disappears and she’s too exhausted to move to her bed.
She can’t figure out why a story set in the time of farmhands and cowboys could make her think of Lena in any way until she rewatches it.
And oh. Oh, she finally gets it now.
Kara hears the words being sung and is reminded of the fact that after everything, Lena still doesn’t have the full story.
Lena had accused her of having ulterior motives, of wanting to be close to her out of selfishness, of being too cowardly to ever take a real leap of faith. She isn’t all that wrong. Kara’s alter ego may be out in the open now for Lena to see, but that doesn’t mean Kara isn’t still hiding behind some lies.
The fact that she’s fallen in love with Lena Luthor accidentally along the way is the only secret she’s got left.
AKA, Kara watches an old movie, realizes what's been in front of her this whole time, and somehow, finds her way back to where her heart has made its home.

Summary
Kara craves Lena. That's the crux of it. Her friendship is intoxicating, like a drug. She thinks she wouldn't mind kissing her on the lips, because a lot of best friends who are really really close kiss on the lips. It's just something humans do. Having that part of Lena hidden away from her, it makes Kara feel some kind of way.
She wishes Lena was even the slightest bit interested in her. That she would notice her broad shoulders when they work out, or touch her jaw with the pads of her fingers to get her attention.
But that’s not who Kara is to Lena. She would be jealous but they’re just friends, best friends, so.

“I –“ Morgana hesitates, thrown off by the question. She clutches the runestone harder. As a last resort her plan was to try to send whoever was summoned back through the rift if they proved disagreeable, but this woman is even more formidable and yet somehow less threatening than Morgana could have imagined. “The spell was to find the most powerful being in creation. I didn’t know who would answer the call.”
The woman frowns. “Me? Not her?”

Summary
Lena casts her mind around for the last time she felt this unmoored, this off-balance, by a woman, and can't come up with anything. Kara Danvers is unlike anybody that Lena has ever met; the sweetest, bubbliest person Lena’s yet to come across, and simultaneously one of the saddest, who is probably lying to everyone that she meets. It’s an impossible contradiction to wrap your head around, and Lena should probably stop hiding in this bathroom and trying.

To be honest: Lena fucking hates hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. It's twenty-six hundred miles of blisters and heat and frostbite, an incorrigible cocktail of bro culture and toxic masculinity and being judged in a judgement free zone. It's dehydration and migraines and shit sleep and shit food, and some days it's hard to find a reason she shouldn't just book a flight out the first chance she gets reception and the elusive phone charge.
To be honest: She also fucking loves it. It's beautiful and breathtaking, the most rewarding thing she's ever done, and the hardest she's ever pushed her body. It's camping with Andrea, perfect sunsets, views, trail angels and it's... Kara Danvers. In fact, this whole thing might be worth it just because she meets Kara Danvers.
