As Vyn focused, Artem watched him work, his gaze lingering on the thick, snowy eyelashes that framed the adjudicator's eyes. Even behind his glasses, those silver strands seemed to catch the light, shimmering beneath the ceiling lamp.
“This is nice,” Artem blurted out before he could think better of it.
Vyn raised one eyebrow at him, “What, nearly getting killed in a hit-and-run because you were holding crucial information you obtained from an illegal black auction is nice? Putting both yourself and Rosa in danger is nice?”
“No,” Artem replied with a small smile, meeting his gaze. “Being taken care of by you is nice.”

“You’re doing it again,” Kasuga said, towel wrapped around his waist, hair still damp. The Hawaii sun has been doing wonders to him. A nice deep tan, the slightest hint of freckles around his nose. Compared to how sickly Kiryu felt sometimes with his hair silver and face sunken in he thought it was ironic. In some ways Kasuga was the complete opposite of him. He was shining brighter now than he ever had in his life, while Kiryu's flame was already barely hanging on.
“Doing what?”
“Thinking way too much. You furrow your brows like you are going to war or something,” Kasuga said, making his point clear by kissing the same spot again.
~It's not easy for Kiryu to accept that he doesn't have to be completely alone for the rest of his life

“A boyfriend!” Luke seethes, pacing back and forth. Marius watches him do his rounds at the foot of the bed like he’s a prowling guard dog. “Nina’s too young to have a boyfriend! How are we sure he isn’t some… some jumped-up dickwad?”
“Have some faith in our daughter’s taste, would you?” Marius tells him calmly, looking over his reading glasses from where he’s already reclined on the bed with a book. “With how adorably lovestruck she sounded when she talked about Oliver, it doesn’t seem like he’s a jumped-up dickwad.”
“Oliver.” Luke hisses with vitriol, as if he’s saying the name of a murderer and not the name of a gangly teenage boy. The sheer venom in his voice makes Marius bark out a laugh.

Nina—Luke and Marius’ wonderful beautiful amazing sixteen year old daughter—announces that she has a boyfriend. Marius is happy for her! Luke, on the other hand, goes into an overprotective spiral. Typical.
