Summary
The line between ecstasy and pain blurs when in the presence of another body, which suggests that a gunshot, like the one fired at Eve, would be on the other end of the spectrum—dispassionate, and cruelly so. No hands, no blood. No bodies at all. It means that Villanelle hadn’t really meant it, a part of her argues. Eve doesn’t try to refute the point.
(Or: Eve lives. She dreams very quietly.)

A month, since Quentin Beck’s grand plan crumpled underneath him on that bridge. A month, since a flash of light was able to distract Peter just as he was about to bring Beck down. A month, since Beck snatched him, since both of them disappeared. An entire. Month.
I’ll keep you updated. I promise.
I love you, kid. Rhodey’s on his way, alright? He’s coming. He’s gonna go as fast as he can.
I love you too. I’ll be okay. I promise. I can do this.
The last thing Tony heard Peter say.
Rhodey, Happy and Fury traversed the London landscape immediately afterwards. They found the glasses, but not Spider-Man. There was footage enough to incriminate Beck for what he was, but somehow, nobody was able to get a shot of when he grabbed Peter. Peter was knocking him around, looked like he was getting the upper hand, and then that flash of light.

That was a side-effect of the soulmate bond people didn’t talk about much. It wasn’t just that you had to tell the truth when you spoke, there was this compulsion to speak: To answer every question, say every thought. You had to physically keep your mouth shut or the truth would leak out anyway.
He supposed it meant that there were no secrets between soulmates, but there were some things—like the fact that Peter being curled up in his mom’s blanket, flushed with fever and cuddly, was one of the cutest things he’d ever seen—that wouldn’t hurt to stay in Tony’s head.

There were no redoes this time, no turning back of time.
Not unless a miracle occurred, and Tony was much too tired and weary of believing in miracles.
He knew there was nothing he could do, but he wished there was. He wished he could go down into his lab and concoct some invention that would fix all of this. He’d move the damn moon if he had to, but none of it would matter. Because in the end… he hadn’t said what he’d wanted to say. He had taken it for granted. It was too late.
