When they'd chosen the piano — because they had chosen the piano — Tamaki had told him that he had wanted a white one, and they'd spent hours poring over the catalogues and looking at the eager faces of photographed craftsmen and their work to settle on a nice one, sleek and tonally indistinguishable (Kyoya) from all of the more decorative, garishly ornate options circled on the page (Tamaki). By the time it had actually come for the piano to arrive, Kyoya had cleared away his schedule to supervise its placement in his living room, and he'd called Tamaki, afterward, holding onto two glasses by the stem in one hand, uncorking a bottle of wine with the other: You should come over to look at the piano.

    Mike-

For the love of God, stop leaving your tuna sandwiches in our locker, it smells like someone died, seriously. I will throw away your lunch box if I see it in here before noon and I'm not kidding. Your mom can send me an invoice.

    -Max

or; Mike and Max are assigned the same locker during their freshman year of high school. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Better, maybe.

“Do you want to go home?” He questions, leaning close and voice soft, and Will pauses, before nodding again. Mike lets out a breath, and lets his hand press against Will a little more firmly when he starts to sway in place again. “Okay, let’s go.”

Then he looks up and is met with smug faces, and Mike flushes when he realizes his own hypocrisy.

I don’t talk like that,” Max recalls, voice high-pitched and overly girly and – Mike definitely doesn’t talk like that.

According to everyone in his life, Mike has a voice reserved just for Will. He tries to figure out what that says about him.

    Summary

Death, as any salesman will tell you, is the process by which the existential dust that all people and animals and plants and some lakes are made out of finally ceases the energetic process of expending itself. Death is when the machinery of being gives up the ghost, so to speak. Death is not the primal dumpster of slavery (to quote Patricia Williams) nor the spectral something-ness of the disappeared (to paraphrase Avery Gordon).

Death is a yielding love letter to the stars. Put another way: Death is un-American.

or: Sam drives out to Seattle. It takes him a year to get back.
