Summary
“Isn't it lovely, all alone
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home”The edge of the black and white image wrinkles under the pressure. His eyes are focused on the video screen in front of him. He catches sight of her hand traveling down to the base of her stomach, as an emotion passes over her face.
Fear.
His Natasha, pregnant and alone.
Yes. Very familiar.
“Bring her…” he whispers, “Home.”
Or…
It isn’t Natasha Romanoff’s first time running from the government. She used to spend her days alone, as paranoia determines her every move. But that was before the Avengers. It was before Clint. Steve. She didn’t have anyone to worry about. But now she’s here.
Running from the government. Alone.
Pregnant.
Just as her past catches up with her.

Summary
They never should have fallen in love; Natasha had known from the beginning what a bad match they were. He’s too earnest by half, always willing to get his hands dirty but never relishing the prospect, and when he and Tony first started working together – well, Steve has a wild streak in him, a need to prove something, plus a love for the craft, but it was also because he had needed the money too badly to let his better angels shout down his demons. His mother was sick, his student loans were paralyzing, and by the time his mother had died and he could buy a Brooklyn brownstone with cash, loyalty had set in. He was always there to be sure that if they skirted legality, they never ruined anyone’s life and they never left a trace.
Natasha does this because she likes it and she’s good at it. For her, it’s never been complicated.

Summary
Steve Rogers recounted the three things over the past few years that he could say have changed his life: the first was when he found a baby while he was on his morning run in a park in a foreign country, the second was when he met Natasha Romanoff, a woman whom he had come to adore and love, and the third...well, it was something he never expected.
Loosely inspired by "Going Back to China in Search of My Daughter’s Secret Past" from the Modern Love section of the New York Times.
