"It will be the best Hearts Aflame gift he will ever get," Jill added, smirking at her handiwork before wiping her forehead. She stepped back, taking a full view of the young lord in all his tantalizing glory. Then, amused said, "You look like a little dessert."
Joshua's excitement bubbled. "That's exactly what I hoped!"

Early on, when she was even younger, she mentioned it to Thancred. She was worried. She couldn’t fully grasp what rumors like that meant, but she wondered if it wasn’t some terrible type of sin eater…
Thancred had shaken his head. “Naught but superstitions passed between frightened people,” he said, “out in the middle of nowhere.”
That made sense. Out in the middle of nowhere, there is more to be frightened of.

...from the corner of his eye, he spotted a glittering aura. Warm, fragile, whispering to him to approach and behold with its glow. He listened, abandoning his task to investigate and as he grew near, its shape revealed itself. A feather.

Clive’s heart jumped though for joy or for fear he could not deduce as when he turned his head towards Joshua’s room, his eyes took in the sight of a sea of kindling light speckling the floor to a door ajar. Joshua’s door.

Taboo as it were, Joshua was wildly curious about many things and Clive was all too willing to enlighten. And with his baby brother being as gorgeous as he was, it wasn’t terribly difficult for Clive to abandon morality in lieu of the feel of Joshua’s lips on his.

Summary
After touching Joshua for the first time, Clive sees his opportunity to push things even further.
“You want to dance with me?” Clive gives his brother a lopsided smile. “I’m afraid I’m terribly out of practice.” Not that he needs any encouragement. After all, he’s never been able to deny Joshua anything he desires.
To think that the Phoenix would choose him to stay by his side, albeit in a different way than anyone imagined. He may not have inherited the eikon, but he has inherited something greater.

They’d spoken before he left. Clive told him that he’d have a free day or two in order to rest when he returned. And he promised to spend at least one of those days with him. Out of anything his brother could have chosen to do, he chose to spend time with him.

It’s a cool, rainy evening at the hideaway. Rolling grey clouds just barely obscure the eerie rose-colored sky, casting the illusion of nightfall over the peaceful sanctuary.
The thin wooden boards don’t do much to retain the heat, thus Joshua Rosfield has found himself resorting to certain other means for keeping warm.

“I know,” Joshua repeats, as Clive’s fingers settle deeper in his hair, carding out the apology he can’t make. “I know you have to go. If we lose Rosalith, we lose—” Rosaria, he means to say, but Clive interrupts him.
“—I lose you. There isn’t a place I could send you on Storm safer than this city.” He smiles. “Allow me to do my duty, lord marquess.” The title sounds funny on his lips.
Joshua rises and sorts himself. “I can order you to stay.” He won’t, and he wouldn’t.
Clive’s smile tugs to one side. “You can try.”

Summary
Eighteen years after the Phoenix Gate incident, Rosaria is notorious for three things: the wars she's won, the Twin Flames who lead her, and her hatred for those who betrayed her.

“There are rumors,” Terence says after a moment, which is odd. He’s not one to traffic in such things.
Dion faces him fully, bemused and amused in equal measure. “What rumors?” He shifts closer, past propriety, and murmurs, “Don’t hold out on me.”
Terence reddens. “No—they aren’t fit for polite company.”
That only makes him more curious. He watches as the elder Rosfield steps closer to the younger to murmur something in his ear. The archduke is perhaps taller by an inch, but they seem of a height. Twin Flames—an inadequate descriptor, as nothing else about them is alike. They are as similar as sun and moon. “Not fit for polite company,” he muses. That is interesting.
