“You.” The voice is corrupted, like it’s coming through a dying radio. The light pulses with the words.
“M-me?” Clarissa asks.
“You. Are the. Host. Congratulations!” It cycles through voices, male, female, a crowd, until suddenly it’s a game show announcer.
“What? What the hell are you talking about?” Clarissa’s cold. Clammy. Her skin feels like it’s tightening across her body, her lungs compressing in her chest.
“You. Are like. Us.”
“Wh—how am I like you? What are you?”
“DROWNING.”
