"If I liked guys, I could really fucking fall for you. You know that, right?"
Of course he knows. But Benji still grins, that damn smile that's as much a bird's as a bear's. Then he says:
"You're already in love with me. You just haven't realized it yet."//
Alternate ending to the trilogy. Benji gets his happy ending.

Summary
The table has been silent for 31 painstaking seconds—Nath has counted each one. During it, details that escaped him, for he is fixed on his plate of Hamburger Helper, his little sister Hannah soaks in like a sponge cleaning a mess: their mom, mouth opening to say something, then shutting so fast Hannah thinks she hears the thunk of teeth, then opening again; their dad, staring at Nath like a stranger who’s wandered in through the back door and sat down at the table; and Nath himself, fingers curling tighter and tighter around his fork until Hannah fears it might snap in two.
At the thirty-third second, Nath finally says something. “I just—” his voice strains out of him in a thin line “—thought you should know.”
Everything Nath Lee never told his parents about his relationship with the boy across the street.

“You know what they say,” Buck replied. “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Isn’t that right, Eddie?”
Bobby looked up, then, glancing back and forth between the two of them—Buck, giving Eddie his best lovesick puppy dog eyes, Eddie ignoring him. “What’s going on here?” he asked.
“Oh, we’d need several psychologists to unpack that,” said Hen. “Maybe an anthropologist, too.”
Next to her, Ravi grimaced and explained, “I said something stupid earlier, and now Buck has been flirting with Eddie all day, to drive us insane.”
----
Buck starts flirting with Eddie. As a joke, obviously.

Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)
