Summary
14 years have passed since Tony Stark's life was sent reeling over the disappearance of his daughter just before her first birthday; before he'd been sent an email to say his one night stand was pregnant, he'd been a man with nothing left to give except the selfish addiction to booze; the year after, rock bottom was the most humbling part. Ever since, he's spent his days clawing his way out of addiction.
The universe was reminding him he couldn't have good in his life - punishing him for ever believing otherwise, but to take it out on a baby who probably never lived to see the light of day again was cruel.
Peace is a foreign concept to Penny Parker. She doesn’t have that fire in her eyes anymore and everyone around her knows it; she’s grief and rage and not much else. She stopped being surprised a long time ago when it came to people leaving, because for all that she is, she knows she’s never been enough to make anyone stay, and there’s a nauseating ache in knowing that.
Bucky Barnes is stuck trying to find the version of himself he lost somewhere along the way. He’ll never be who everyone expects him to be.
He’s proved wrong when memories revisit him over the course of two months.

It had been years since they were rescued. Peter grew older, became thin, sad, and violent. But violence was good. Violence maintained order. Order prevented chaos. Chaos had no purpose, unlike Peter, whose purpose, like violence, maintained order. And some people have to die to preserve that order. Dying is just their purpose. Peter was choosing to fulfill his.

It was an innocent thing, the way they curled into the shape of each other; her breath on his neck, his hand on her stomach, a tangle of limbs that made it hard to know where the void started and the light ended; made it hard to know which was which.

Bob shakes his head. “I don’t think I’m supposed to be strong.”
“Then it is good thing you have friends who are,” Alexei says warmly. “They’ll protect you. We will. зуб даю."
He stares at Bob so intently he fears he might frighten the man, but Bob doesn’t shy away from his gaze. Instead, he looks right on back, like he was hanging on every word.
“Besides,” Alexei goes on, “there are important things beside strength. You are kind, and sensitive, and only one in whole place who knows how to clean dishes.”
Bob laughs wetly, and that was really all Alexei wanted.
