Summary
A pretty heavy and sad piece I wrote about two months after my grandmother, my Nana who was a second mom to me, passed away suddenly. To be honest, I wasn't in the best state of mind when I wrote this, and I finally broke down in front of others about a week after writing this. Grief is hard, and trying to stay strong for others will eventually backfire. I'm fortunate to be in a much better mental state now, but I have to say, this piece of writing is one of the most visceral, moving, emotional, and tear producing things I've even written. I felt like something this raw, this powerful, needed to be shared.
Imagine the feeling of pulling back the messy emotions of a broken heart, slapping on a brittle smile each day, and going through the motions of acting fine, acting like you're doing better, like you're healing, like you're moving past your grief. All while you go home and scream into your pillows at night in rage, anger, grief, despair, hopelessness, and exhaustion, all before getting up the next morning to do it all over again. This is what that feels like.

The small, pink blob of short hair pushed up to reveal a puffy face. Shisui's heart ached because how could they, how could they she was only a child -- kids can't be this cruel. "Hey," he started instead. "Don't let these mean assho—I mean blockheads discourage you. Just focus on your training right now and let the boys come later.”
The child smiled slightly and Shisui thought, that maybe, this day wasn't a complete waste at all.

The first thing Shisui thought when he saw her was one simple word; "Pink."
Pink hair was not common. In fact, the young Uchiha had never seen a single person with such a mesmerizing hair color. Sure, there was Uzumaki crimson, Yamanaka yellow and even the unique Hatake silver, but nothing came close to what the little girl, not even as tall as his elbows he'd bet, was sporting on her head while trying to hide herself on top of a tree.
