Summary
Keith sighs as he leans against the window frame. The cup of coffee Lance made him has grown cold, and though he hates the bitter taste, he finds himself taking another sip anyway. It feels strangely right to do so, watching the storm. The two just go together in a way Keith can’t explain.
“You like the rain?”
He glances over his shoulder and looks at Lance. Keith hums before turning back to the view. The streets are empty, with only a few pedestrians strolling the sidewalks holding either an umbrella or their coats tugged over their heads. The light hitting the wet asphalt makes the roads glitter, but the storm clouds are heavy, even in this room.
“It’s nice to see. There’s a lot more up here than there was in the desert.”
“Deserts tend to be dry.”
“Don’t I know it.”
Keith is a flame that refuses to diminish until everything around him is scorched. Luckily for him, Lance was never really afraid of getting burned. -

Summary
Shiro shifts in his spot in the gray bean bag chair and his stomach moves with him. Uneasiness unfurls in his gut as Adam clicks on the stereo and begins to play Lofi Hip Hop – Chill Beats to Relax and Study To, but as the music streams into the air like the dust floating in the light cascading through the window, Shiro knows the feeling isn’t because of Adam, or their procrastination.
Checking his phone, he tries and fails to hold back a groan as he sees the date on the top of his screen, along with his own annoying reminders.
“What’s up?” Adam asks from across the room. He’s standing by his desk, glaring down at the humming printer as it spits out the pieces of paper that are supposed to save both of their lives. He glances over at Shiro, eyebrow raised. “Don’t tell me you have to go.”
A short laugh bubbles out of his chest and he shakes his head. “Yeah, no. I told Gramps we’re on the brink of a breakthrough.” He rolls his eyes at himself. “He’s excited to see how far we’ve come with the project.”
Having a crush on your best friend isn't easy. Like, at all.

Summary
Lance staggers, eyes widening as they spread across the rich hues of purple, which blossom like flowers on a vine. White dots splatter against the colorful void, shining brightly, but they're too far away for Lance to feel their warmth. He finds two other dots against the darkscape, larger than the rest yet still hardly noticeable, each separately colored red and blue. Weird. As they catch his attention, for a split second the stars shine brighter before they fade.
His brows knit together. This place is more familiar than the last.
A frown takes his lips, and it's as well-known as the scenery that had shifted around him moments before. Lance was never in Cuba, was he? He was always here, always lost in this void. Always separated from his family with a fine line that’s light-years long.
He chokes on a heavy sigh and remembers that he doesn’t need to breathe. Not here. Not anymore.
In which Lance falls in love, saves Shiro from the astral plane, becomes one of Voltron's leaders pro tem, and finds his home. Not necessarily in that order, but hey, he's trying. -

Summary
“You’d think leaving would show them.” Keith chuckles with a bitterness that’s like uncharted waters. He understands the feeling of being lost, but this? This is different. He’s stranded without aid, listening to Keith tear himself down brick by brick. It almost hurts. “Being the first one to step away, to leave them behind. You’d think that the cycle of deprivation would come to a close.” He shakes his head. His dark hair falls into his eyes. “Being one step ahead of the others doesn’t mean you’ll win the race. You still end up alone. Still end up losing.”
Lance clenches his jaw tight, so tight he can feel the pleasant sting of pressure against his molars. The words are too personal. Too close to a home Lance didn’t grow up in. Guilt bubbles inside of him as hot as acid. He shouldn’t be listening to this. He shouldn’t be the one sitting here, listening to Keith come crumbling down.
But he is. Oh, God, he is.

Summary
His lips curled into a grin as Lance sat up and grabbed another slice of pizza from the half-empty, grease-stained box.
"I thought you hated pineapples on pizza?" Keith mused as Lance brought the slice to his open lips.
Lance glared at him mid-bite. Through a full mouth, he said, "I guess true love proved me wrong."
Keith realizes some things about his relationship with Lance that he wants to change.

Summary
If it were anybody else, Lance would think they’re messing with him for fun.
But Keith is Keith, straight-forward and guileless. If he’s touching Lance more, it’s only because he’s gotten more comfortable. And on one hand, that’s great, that’s—Lance feels very honored. His heart is doing backflips and aerial stunts and everything. On the other, this is really not helping with his raging crush.
His breaking point turns out to be when Keith, exhausted after a day of subspace meetings, drops his head onto Lance’s shoulder and sighs.
It’s a sigh that says, now I’m comfortable, that admits, I’m recharging, that practically screams, you help.
Hands in his pockets, he lets Lance bear his weight as if he trusts Lance to handle it. Great. That’s just—how dare he. How dare he be so vulnerable with Lance? Who does that?
It’s so enraging that Lance just blurts out, “I’m going to need you to stop doing this before I fall in love with you even more, asshole.”
Keith freezes.
