“Pa!” Gillian calls. Manners have escaped her, it seems. She sounds excited, taken off guard. “You’ve got a visitor!”
He lays the pencil down between the pages of the ledger and stands, arches his back and hears it pop, shrugs on his jacket as he opens the front door onto the porch and-
