Mike shrugs, looking mildly uncomfortable. "Didn't seem important," he says, and Will's annoyance comes back in full force.
"Didn't seem- okay, well did you tell her that we weren't together?" he demands, fingers tightening around Mike's sleeve again.
"Yes!" Mike squawks, wrenching his arm out of Will's grip. He looks- not angry, per se, but definitely a little annoyed now. Confused at Will's reaction, maybe, and- yeah, Will knows he's being overdramatic, but Mike is being entirely too underdramatic about all this, and he thinks they should at least try to meet in the middle. "But I don't know what my parents think. And by the way, I'm not loving how offended you are by people thinking you're dating me."
Will pauses. "Hang on, that's not what I'm saying." He's thrilled by the concept, actually, but he knows he shouldn't be and Mike can't know that, can't know how bad he wants this, which is why Will's had to take a different route.

Summary
It’s seven at night and the party is gathered in Mike’s basement, drunk on laughter and cold pizza and togetherness. Will is in his wizard costume—well, the cape is draped across his lap as he stretches out on the couch and the tall, pointed purple hat is askew, a couple jostles away from falling straight off, so maybe he isn’t exactly in costume, but he doesn’t really care at this point, because the room is full of warmth and giddiness and he hasn't felt so at peace in what seems like forever. Mike is sprawled out on the floor below him, snorting at the sight of Lucas and Dustin as they wrestle with each other.
Will and Mike sneak away to make out.

Mike frowns. "I don't know. Um. Dark hair. Hazel eyes? A pretty smile. Not too short, because that would make kissing them kind of awkward. I'm pretty lanky, so maybe someone a little more filled out than I am."
"Okay," Lucas says slowly. "Does that remind you of anyone in particular?"
Mike opens his eyes and shrugs. His gaze travels around the room, like he's trying to find the right person. "Not really."
Well, no one can say Lucas hadn't tried.

Summary
It’s different this time, not like the kiss they shared when they were kids; when Mike was practising kissing El at the Snowball and Will could barely understand what he was feeling. This— Mike wants this, he wants this more than Will thinks he knows himself.
Will wants this too, it’s all Will’s ever wanted really but not like this, their story doesn’t end with Mike kissing him in a middle-of-nowhere motel when his sister, Mike’s girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend, or whatever is still missing, still captured by forces out of their control for the fourth time since he disappeared all those years ago.
It doesn’t make the kiss any shorter though, Mike’s eyes are closed shut as Will lets his flicker; he tastes like cheap mint toothpaste and the strawberry gum that Argyle always keeps in the van. Mike smells like motel and Argyle’s pizza van even though they’ve both showered and underneath it all he smells like Mike, he is Mike, and he’s kissing him.
Mike is kissing him.
