Summary
Against everything he believes in and stands for, Ace is a Marine. Not by force, but by choice. He often slacks off and breaks the rules during the day, taking after his rebellious grandfather. He hates it here, but if he can achieve his one goal - his greatest desire - all of it will be worth it. For suspicious reasons Ace can’t seem to stay away from an abandoned wing of the Marine base that’s said to be haunted by the ghost of a young boy, but Ace doesn’t mind the rumors if he can keep his secrets.

Summary

It’s fine, he would do it all a million times over to keep Luffy happy and safe… He gets a surprise when he makes a strangely familiar new friend. Luffy struggles to not get himself into trouble and make things harder for Ace. It doesn’t help that he’s both a trouble magnet and very accident prone. Things take a turn for the worse when Luffy is kidnapped, leaving Ace reeling and terrified. He and his new friend work to find him before it’s too late.

A second of silence passes as Newgate and Makino stare at each other. Newgate knew she was doing her job, caring for Luffy, and making sure that he was safe. But he couldn't help but feel a little offended. He would be a fool to risk his Family.
"Say what you must, but I assure you I love my family rather than being a fool who would endanger them.” He smiles. “Luffy is safe and welcome here.”
For now, that’s enough for Makino to hear.
or Luffy's parents die and Garp is given custody. After Garp gets arrested for abuse, Luffy gets bounced around in the foster system. Eventually he makes it to Newgates.

“Luffy, what’s he talking about? What’s going on?” Sanji finally broke the silence.
“His village is starving,” Luffy replied matter-of-factly from his perch on the desk, one leg up supporting his arm, the other dangling. “They’ve had a bad fishing season, their land’s dry, and the jungle too dangerous for them to forage in. They tried to fish further in the ocean, but it’s all lost from the storm.”
The room fell quiet after Luffy’s explanation, waiting for a response. The man whispered ‘please’ over and over as tears fell from his eyes, fingers tightening in the sheets. Sanji glanced around the room, hands tucked in his pockets.
Finally, with a shrug, he spoke, “Then we feed them.”
