Loss can take many shapes. For Hans Capon, it is the freedom he lost to an arranged marriage, a simple happiness of living in the moment lost to his new duties. More recently, it is the temper he lost in a single training session, followed by a lost fight with his pride. Then there is a certain blacksmith-shaped hole in his heart — and, most lately, a lost struggle with water, which seems to have cost him dearly, followed by a lost hope. Summary
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Series 3 timeline is up, and is my attempt to pull together, from John's blog posts, the episodes and a good deal of guess work, just when everything is supposed to have happened. I have already amended it thanks to comments I've received and I will continue to add to it and amend it as new things come to light from rewatching and other people's fabulous insights.
I was intending to add TAB and Series 4 to this but there is so little obvious evidence that it would a lot of work and end up mostly be my guesses rather than anything more concrete anyway. Since I was left both unimpressed and uninspired by Series 4 I have decided not to spend my time on it. If anyone else wants to use this as a jumping off point for their own Series 4 timeline, please be my guest!

Author's note: This entire fic is based on the video “Cat's in the Cradle” by daasgrrl, which combines House (starring Hugh Laurie), Sherlock (starring Benedict Cumberbatch), and Fortysomething (starring Hugh Laurie and Benedict Cumberbatch). I took its central premise, used as much of the imagery and implied back story as I could fit in, and imagined what might happen next.
