It was one thing to develop a crush on someone, but it was another for the crush to feel so intense that your brain held up a warning sign in big bold letters that read CAUTION THEY MAY BREAK YOUR HEART. So when the color blue inevitably came up, the only thing Suguru could focus on were Satoru´s piercing blue eyes, and the way they lit up just for her.
¨Any answer for blue, kinda lost ya there, princess.¨ Satoru teased, making Suguru´s face flush a deep cherry color from how embarassed she was.
¨Your eyes.¨ She whispered softly, barely a whisper if you could even call it that, it was a low and hushed tone of voice, one that was scared of where this would lead but also excited where it would go.
¨Ah, speak up dear -- I can not hear you.¨ Satoru enjoyed this, making Suguru shrink in her seat and cover her face with the sleeves of her sweater.

¨I wish we did not have to be broken up.¨ Suguru added, allowing himself to let out some of the word vomit he had been swallowing since the start of their call. If it were up to him, he would beg and scream and cry until Satoru took him back, until they could be them again.
¨I know.¨
-- ¨We don't have to be.. Broken up I mean.¨
¨Please don't do this.¨ Satoru whispered back, his tone was gentle but yet to Suguru it still felt so cruel, as if Satoru was only twisting the knife he had shoved into his heart.
-- ¨Okay.¨ Suguru stopped himself from embarrassing himself further, tears prickling at the side of his eyes. He swallowed the rest of the word vomit that was sitting at the tip of his tongue, allowing himself to settle in the new found silence that filled the air.

In other words: Suguru and Satoru have been broken up for some time now and Suguru decides to call Satoru late at night when he can´t sleep.

“I wish you loved yourself enough so you could love me too.” Satoru whispered, his hands squeezing Suguru's in his own as he tries to meet Suguru's avoidant eyes.
“I do love you.” Suguru whispered back, his dark eyes finally choosing to settle on Satoru's eyes that were filled with tears.
“It doesn’t feel that way..”
“No, don't say that. I love you..” Suguru breathes out, his voice cracking, “don’t say that.”
Satoru allowed a moment of silence to fill the air, tears were spilling from his eyes as he struggled to understand how Suguru could love him but also want to leave him here, alone. He couldn´t wrap his head around it, couldn´t figure out how Suguru was so okay with this, so calm about everything.
“You’re going to kill yourself anyway, what’s the point in trying to convince me you care.” Satoru spits out words like venom. He regretted them instantly, knowing that he was being mean when he should be showing more sympathy.*
In other words: Suguru is going to commit suicide, and Satoru can not save him.

Summary
¨Fuck, I missed you so much..¨ Satoru whispers, opening his eyes and allowing his hand coming up to hold Suguru´s hand in place on his cheek, silently asking for him to not let go, not yet. He wanted to bathe in this moment for a few seconds more, not caring for how desperate he seemed for the other´s touch.
¨I know, Toru, I know.¨ Suguru whispered back, his tone a lot more apologetic this time than it was before. He takes a breath before speaking once more, ¨I´m sorry for leaving.¨
Satoru nods, letting his apology sink in, ¨It´s okay, I know why you did.¨
¨It was still a shitty thing to do.¨ Suguru points out, ashamed of his actions.
¨Yeah.¨ Satoru agrees, although, he couldn´t quiet bring himself to be angry at Suguru. He would be angry had it been anyone else, but the soft spot he held for Suguru was far too big for him to ever allow himself to stay angry, to be angry, not when he was right there in front of him.

There is another silence on the end of the line, a long uncomfortable one.
¨Please don´t do this..¨ Suguru whispered.
A wave of shame crashed over Satoru, feeling humiliated at begging to be loved by the one he loves most. Most people would accept this as the outcome, that love simply was not enough to save their relationship -- but he couldn't. Sure, you can love the fuck out of someone, love them to bits and pieces, but that did not always mean that those bits and pieces would stay with you.
¨Please..¨ Satoru begged, he swallowed the lump in his throat again, feeling it get bigger as time passed. ¨Please just tell me what I need to do…¨
There was a sharp exhale coming from the other line, frustration maybe?
¨There is nothing you can do, Satoru.¨
