Summary
There’s nothing worse than a Shadyside High School experience—something that Deena and the rest of the class of 1995 have come to terms with now that one last semester separates them from graduation. That is, until the winter storms collapse the school roof and all 700 students are ordered to be redistributed among the district to continue their education. Being selected to attend Sunnyvale for 18 weeks is a blessing in theory; after all, it’s a great school with great teachers and great programs. What’s not-so-great about it consists of the entire student population, especially when the presence of Samantha Fraser becomes a common occurrence between the unfamiliar walls.

The second time Sam Fraser heard the words "I love you" whispered to her was when she was kissing none other than her ex-girlfriend and rival Shadysider band nerd Deena Johnson.
Only one of those times was exactly what she wanted to hear, and it was all too familiar.

Summary
Deena has had a crush on Sam for a while, and Kate is tired of it. Kate, being on the cheer squad with Sam, decides to 'discreetly' set the two up with Simon’s help.
A modern AU (sort of) based on the song 'This Side of Paradise' by the Coyote Theory where Sam is a cheerleader for Shadyside and Deena is a band geek.

Sam leans over, and Deena finds that she can't think straight, and the burn grows. Sam says something, but it doesn't quiet meet Deena's ears.
It burns.
Deena doesn't mind.
