It’s sour cherries and ice cream sandwiches. Fresh baked apple pie and fucking rainbow ropes. Barty is a kid in the candy store and gasps for the first breath he can catch. He surfaces and it’s the most painful thing he’s ever felt, his head cracking against the tiles when he draws back.
It adds a bit of something, real pain versus euphoric overstimulation, and Barty’s hips buck. His mouth drops open and he licks his lips like a child. Drawing his bottom lip between his teeth to suck what he’d missed.or, Barty falls through a sliding glass door one Friday night and, consequently, Evan falls in love.

He raised his leg up until his sketchers shoe balanced on the rim of the toilet. He didn't care that the elastic of his fuzzy cookie monster themed pajama pants was stretched so tight it bit into the skin on his knee on one side and his lifted ankle on the other.
The bell was about to ring, they both knew they had so little time to finish, while Barty didn’t care about being late to class, Evan minded.

Barty doesn’t think anything of it at first. Dorcas always tells him how obsessive, possessive, and impulsive he is, and though she never means it as a compliment, Barty always takes it as one. It’s just the way he is.
So Barty doesn’t think anything of it when he impulsively climbs into Evan’s bed, possessively wraps an arm around him, and obsessively asks, “You love me, right?”
