The words made the growing flame in Aventurine’s heart burn a little brighter. What had started out as barely smoldering coals was quickly becoming something he had trouble keeping under control. “Careful. If you keep talking like that, I’ll start to think you’re worried about me.”
For a moment, Ratio was silent. He could feel Aventurine’s expectant gaze on him, waiting for a response. “I had thought that was obvious,” he said quietly.
Two lonely men with vast differences take a chance to reach out to one another, and find something far more powerful than their pain.

Summary
When Aventurine adds an event to Ratio's calendar titled "Sexual Intercourse with Senior Manager Aventurine", he expects an angry text—maybe, a phone call if the doctor is feeling particularly zesty. What he does not expect is for Ratio to show up at his door, right on time, fully intending to make good on their appointment.
Or: Aventurine fucks around and gets fucked. Not a single lesson is learned.

“You need something with which to occupy yourself, and taking care of animals can be psychologically stabilizing,” Ratio says. “These particular animals are self-sufficient enough to not be too much work for a first-time pet owner, but still possess conventionally appealing characteristics. Given your situation, they are the best option.”
“I don’t--” Aventurine exhales and pinches between his eyebrows. “Ratio, I don’t want pets.”
(While waiting to find out if he's been fired, Aventurine's been having some really, really unpleasant nightmares. Ratio brings him some creations to try to improve his mental health. They're surprisingly helpful--but they've got their work cut out for them.)
