Summary
Susie and Noelle are getting closer, and Kris, unwilling, starts feeling left in the dark. On one hand, they feel like they're losing their best friend (and crush) to another friend of theirs while also feeling in denial of their very obvious feelings for their reptile best friend. On the other, Susie is, whether accidentally or not, ditching Kris more and more to go on dates with Noelle. Kris doesn't like it, but pointedly does not want to call it jealousy. Kris is not jealous. They are ecstatic. Can't you tell?
On other news, a new family moves in next door.
OR: Susie spends more time with Noelle now that they're officially together, and Kris is left alone. A new human girl moves in next door right around the same time. Kris decides to get to know her, and only then does Susie realize she isn't spending as much time with Kris as she used to.

Just get up and say something. Kris thought. But what would they say? Susie was on a date right now. Why would they ruin her happiness? I can be a bit selfish, right? Kris looked up again at Susie, the sunset illuminating her features. Her hair shiny in the evening light, her golden eyes brighter as the water shined behind her. But in her arms… was Noelle. Not Kris.
It’s not your place. Kris thought glumly. They pressed their face into the table as the new couple continued to giggle and laugh.

When Susie and Noelle become official, Kris closes themselves off to Susie. They just can't control how jealous they are that their crush is with their childhood friend. After Kris and Susie have an argument, Kris unexpectedly leaves for college. Noelle and Susie plan to join Kris in one year. During that time, Kris works on themselves and finds a new home in the city. But when Kris's time is up and Susie and Noelle arrive in the city, Kris isn't so sure they've moved on from Susie completely.
