A moment of truthfulness that could be attributed to his inebriated state, or because the evidence was so clear in front of him. Shane looked back at him, seemingly shocked again at Ilya speaking up, as if he didn’t choose to stay. Shane gripped his glass tighter, “I look no different than you.”
“Yes you do,” Ilya replied. He tossed back the rest of his drink, setting it back down on the bar. He stood, fastened his suit jacket, and smoothed it. He felt Shane’s eyes on him the whole time. “You always do, Hollander.”

Shane had found the message sweet despite his disappointment. Now it just feels… ominous.
That’s usually the point when Shane has to get out of bed and pace around his bedroom and remind himself that, if Ilya is ghosting him (he is not, he’s not, he’s not), then he is also ghosting the rest of the fucking world. Because that is the thing that truly, really, terrifies him.
No one has heard of Ilya Rozanov in nearly three weeks.
Shane hasn’t been getting much sleep lately.

For a world-ending moment, it felt like the ground was falling out from beneath him. The hand he’d been extending to greet the new bodyguard froze in midair, a stab of panic jolting through his entire body.
Because it was the man from the night before. The man he’d slept with.
(Shane Hollander is the son of the Canadian prime minister. He is also the captain of his college hockey team. This obscene balancing act is seemingly going just fine, until he accidentally hooks up with his new bodyguard one night at the bar.)

Shane almost laughs. “I don’t know.” He almost cries.
A hand slides up towards his chest. “Hollander—”
“Stop.”
He holds on to Rozanov’s wrists even as they pull away.
“Did I hurt you?”
“No,” but the cardiac monitor would’ve been palpable under his skin.
In September 2010, Shane suffers a cardiac event during training camp that forces his medical retirement before he ever plays a single game with Montreal. Without his playing career, Shane goes to college, finds his way back to hockey through coaching, and somehow, even without the heat of rivalry, finds his way to Ilya, too.

Summary
A nineteen-year-old Shane Hollander is a completely normal college student-- well, almost. In between studying and lectures, he kills vampires.
In a world where vampires crawl the earth, feeding on the innocent, there has to be someone to stop them. Or multiple someones. Shane is one of them, more out of tradition than anything else. He doesn't take pleasure in killing vampires like other hunters do. Despite this, he continues to hunt, to protect the earth from these dangerous, unpredictable, bloodthirsty monsters.
Ilya Rozanov is also a completely normal nineteen-year-old college student. Other than the tiny little hiccup that he's one of the bloodthirsty monsters Shane's grown-up hunting.
Despite their differences, this unlikely duo teams up in an attempt to find what vampire has been going around killing hunters.
