Work Text:
Day 1
Looking out the window for the last time, Kakyoin just sighed at the fluffy white clouds. Ever since his return from Cairo he just felt like his life was empty and just held no meaning; He, of course, didn't really realize this until he came home to an empty house. Each day of school grew more trivial than the next and honestly he hated it and hated how Jotaro just acted like his life had been normal the whole time. There were a few times where he'd just sit in the bathroom sobbing to himself, biting on his sleeve to muffle his cries; He absolutely hated this feeling. This feeling of emptiness and weakness for he felt like he had...no reason to exist. So after school he knew what he had to do.
Once the school bell rung and the teacher announced the end of the school day, Kakyoin stood from his desk and grabbed his things. The pink haired boy didn't even stop at his cubby and just made his one way destination to the stairs. He was so despondent he didn't even hear Jotaro call for him. Each step seemed to echo louder and louder in his head as he hurried to the roof of the school. When he reached the final gate to his choice tears begun to trickle from those pale blue eyes of his and he didn't even bother to wipe them when he opened the door.
A gentle summer breeze ruffled his bright hair and school jacket; The weather had been very nice recently making the days seem brighter and people happier. Soft clouds above him occasionally dotted out the sun giving off tiny bits of shade to cool the heat of the day. Walking over to the railing, Kakyoin dropped his bag along the way and gripped the steel bar keeping him from walking over the edge. Below him students had already begun to mingle and move out of the school and his eyes searched for that certain black hat but it could not be found in the group. As he slipped a piece of hair behind his ear the boy smiled to himself.
Just as he had taken his shoes off and put them neatly to the side, He had noticed a blonde man to his side standing on the other side of the railing. Though he, himself, had the same plan he found himself almost paralyzed with fear. As he slowly began to notice the man held a gentle smile on his scared face as he allowed that soft breeze to carry his long hair. Kakyoin gripped the steel bar with an iron grip as he opened his mouth to speak, "H-Hey don't do it please!" When the man turned his head to look at him Kakyoin felt almost sick. How could he tell this stranger not to do it when he himself planned to do the same thing? Closing his eyes tightly he wanted to just slam his head against the railing."What's wrong...?"
The scarred and blonde man just smiled and turned his head back to look at the sky, Tears shimmering in his pale eyes."You've most likely heard it all before, Son." Letting go with one hand, The man clutched his chest slightly before turning back to Kakyoin."I loved someone I knew I could not have. I was such an Imbecile to not confess myself to him before he married." And after speaking the man just laughed as if he had not been suffering, "We remained friends until he died and I'd always loved him."
Kakyoin let his tears fall as he grabbed the strangers hand that had clutched his chest, Looking up with red tearful eyes he spoke once more."Just because he died doesn't mean you have to as well, Sir." The shocked expression on his face made him keep going, "Keep living! Let his memory carry on into each new person you meet! Just by how fondly you speak of this man he sounds like a great and respectable one. " The blonde man let his tears completely fall as he climbed back over the railing to safety with Kakyoin and after he had done that, The teen had pulled him into a tight hug."You will find another; I promise."
After their hug, The blonde man held his hand out for Kakyoin to shake it."Thank you, Son. My name is Robert; I Just felt like you would like to know the name of the man you saved." Once they shook hands, Robert had mumbled a tiny thank you before walking back to the roof door. The way he moved seemed almost un-natural, It had a sort of un-worldy grace to it.
Slipping his shoes back on, Kakyoin had turned to say a final good-bye to the man but was greeted by an empty space and a hushed 'Thank you'. That man, Robert, had just been here with him only moments ago so where had he gone? Was Robert even real in the first place or was he just a way to get him to...stop? Looking around, The pink haired teen had found absolutely no trace of that man. "Robert..." To him, That man felt too real to never had existed.
Day 2
Jotaro had passed notes to him all day with tiny notes that spanned from 'Are you okay?' to 'You're coming over today like it or not'; Though he appricated Jotaro's concerned there was no way he was changing his mind today. That empty house haunted him again last night and he couldn't do it anymore. Tears threatened to spill now as he climbed the staircase once again but he couldn't shed them anymore. The world didn't need his tears anymore it made that present when it made him like this.
Today was slightly warmer, The breeze wasn't chill but only stirred up the suffocating heat. The clouds didn't exist and just allowed the sun to beat down harder on the poor students below making some take their school jackets off. The world around him seemed to try to kill him off before he could make his choice but it wouldn't have to wait long.
Bending down to slip his shoes off he caught the movement of a headband whipping rapidly in the breeze. Slightly pissed at this he stood up quite rapidly and just like yesterday, The boy stood on the dangerous side of the railing. Like the first man, This boy had pale blonde hair but his features had been much younger and un-scarred. The hands that gripped the railing were gloved but the scars upon his knuckles could seen telling the world he was quite a fighter; A fighter who was risking his life like this. That boy seemed so young, too young, to be as empty as he was. Green eyes scanned the students below and just closed as he took a deep heavy breath; Was he really preparing himself for this?
Kakyoin didn't know who this man was but he grabbed the hand of the man who was getting ready to make a mistake. The alarm in those bright tear filled eyes startled him a bit but her kept going, "Don't do this! You're making a horrible mistake." Once again he felt like too much of a hypocrite; He was going to go through with it today and now this boy was ruining it. Tears started welling up in his own eyes again as the green eyed boy started to break down emotionally. When his breathing grew more erratic, Kakyoin slowly tried to turn him so that he faced him. If it was the last thing he did on this earth he wanted it to be this; He needed to save this man.
"Do you know how it feels to be ignored?" His accent was Italian, He had to be some sort of transfer student(Kakyoin thought this of course)."To have people look at you and feel like they're looking through you and not at you?" This man was certainly saying things that hit too close to home but he had to stay strong. Watching and feeling this man grip his hands so tightly almost assured him this was definitely real and made him want to save him all the more, "If the world doesn't want to see me for me and the things I've done then It can have it's wish."
He had felt the man pull slightly which made his stomach flop, Kakyoin had to stop this now. "You have people who love you..." He stopped slightly because he found he didn't know this boys name and hoped he would answer for him.
"Caesar..."
"You have people who love and care for you Caesar!" When Caesar just laughed he knew he wasn't going to be saved so easily, "You have people at home who make you meals every night and day! Your...uhh... significant other must care for you and treat you with love, right? Think of them Caesar." Caesar paused slightly when he said that, His green eyes wide as tears poured from them. Was this going to save him? That little ring he felt on his hand just seconds ago."They must look at you right? Their smile as wide as can be. They love you Caesar; Don't make them grieve, Please."
Caesar let out a loud sob as he hastily jumped over to railing and back to safety; He pretty much tackled Kakyoin into a hug and just sobbed into his shoulder. Did he have this unknown talent for saving people with issues like his own? As the blonde boy sobbed and cried out he found himself patting his back and rubbing circles into it to calm him down. "You're fine now Caesar. You can go home to them now." Feeling the ring digging into his back he felt himself compelled to ask him one more question, "What's your significant other's name? I might know them."
"This ring isn't one of marriage but of promise." Caesar mumbled as he backed away, his pale tear filled gaze stared at the ring. A small smile on his face as he just stared, "His name is Joseph and...I broke that promise a long time ago." Giving his head a small shake and before Kakyoin could speak he continued, "Thank you, Kakyoin. Please, Keep Joseph good company. You are such a kind boy."
Just like that that blonde man, Caesar A. Zeppeli, had just vanished before his eyes leaving nothing but an emotional trace. Almost as to prove to himself that Caesar was no longer there he reached out a hand to grab at the air only to find that nothing was there. Turning to look back at the railing, Kakyoin smiled as he gripped the bar. His mind had been changed again.
Day 3
Someone was there again too. This time a it was a woman; He hair long a beautiful with a hue of gold. Her eyes shimmered in a cold dark pain as she considered her end.
He talked to her though and she admitted she missed her husband too much. Erina smiled and hugged him.
He saved another life and again and he returned home to that empty house.
Day 4
A man this time
Blonde hair, Muscular, and all too similar to that bastard DIO.
He helped him; He once again returned home to that empty house.
Day 5
He saved another; A woman with long brown hair this time. Her husband died too and he helped her.
He hated coming home to that empty house; Tomorrow was going to his final day.
Day 6
This time, Kakyoin, didn't even bother to remove his shoes when he reached the roof. Though no one was here at the moment he felt like that could change in just and instant. So he just simply leaned over the railing to watched the students bustling and moving under him; None bothering to look and point in concern at the boy hanging off the railing. A careless smile was on his face as he watched that hat wearing boy he recognized waiting at the school gates for someone who might not come. Like auto pilot, He began to slip his shoes off only to be stopped by someone too familiar.
By his side, Once again on the too dangerous side of the railing, sat a boy with a very careless smile and empty eyes. That pink hair danced softly in that cool breeze and those stupid bright pink earring dangled and jingled next to his neck. That green school jacket, too similar to his, shuffled and danced in the duo that was his earrings and hair. When that boy finally looked at him he felt his heart stop; That boy was him but...something was off.
But his voice betrayed his face as he spoke, That smiling face was home to a trembling and fearful sounding boy. "I just want to stop the scars that grow when I go home." Lifting a hand to cover his eyes he laughed a little, "I'm tired of feeling so alone when I know I'm not. I want a home filled with people who love me."
Sickness once again filled his belly as he gripped his school jacket too tightly, almost tearing the fabric. Out of all the things this look alike could of chose as his problem it was something too personal and close to home. "You aren't alone so please..." This was hypocrisy at it's finest as he spoke and maybe that's why he couldn't stop his tears, "Don't do this...D-Don't do this please...!" Before he had time to react, Kakyoin had grabbed his look alike and pulled him back to safety.
Both boys toppled on the roof and Kakyoin just held the boy tightly as they his the tilted ground. He was still sobbing as the look alike rolled to the side to gaze at his savoir and just moved the hair out of Kakyoin's eyes, "Remember that; Thank you."
Crying to himself on that roof he clutched his chest as if he was in pain as the look alike had disappeared like the others. Why did that one hurt so much? That pain seemed too real to be an illusion. Tomorrow is the day. Nothing will stop me now.
The Final Day
He didn't bother to go to class that afternoon and just headed straight to the roof after lunch with Jotaro. He had to laugh at himself a little as he watched the mingling students below; He had to nerve to mention Jotaro on his last day. Please, Jotaro, Give my regards to Holly, Mr.Joestar, and Polnareff. We conquered DIO but here I am, Too weak to keep on living after Cairo. He at least expected someone to just show up and ruin his plans but after setting his shoes off to the side neatly and standing back up; He found no one was here to save him. Chuckling inwards he couldn't say he was completely surprised. Before his climb he took off his school jacket, making sure to set it aside with his shoes and bag.
Climbing over the railing, He truly felt the weight of his choice before him. Though he wanted this he could feel his own iron grip on the railing behind him for some sort of support. Why was he hesitating? He had wanted this for a week now and there was no one to stop him. Just before he let go he heard the sounds of rushed footsteps and the heavy bang of the door being flung open. Turning his head, His eyes grew wide as he noticed a heavily panting Jotaro."J-Jojo...?"
"Get back over here, You idiot!" Jotaro practically commanded as he made his way to the railing. Concern was evident in his teal eyes as he spoke once again, "I knew something was up with you but this? I never would of thought of this."
Smiling and laughing he turned his head to face the empty sky and school grounds before him, "Do you know how it feels to return to an empty house, Jojo? It's cold and lonely."
"I've told you a thousand times you ca-"
"It's unfortunately not the same Jojo." Kakyoin had interrupted his friend and let go of the railing with one hand, His heart beating too fast. "Your mother is a very lovely woman and you are the perfect friend but...It's just not the same..." And with that he finally let go. He dropped a lot faster than he would of expected but something was off.He had closed his eyes as he fell but he opened almost as soon as he felt a strange pressure on his arm.
Jotaro had practically thrown himself off the railing as well to catch him be it the only thing binding him to his spot was Star platinum. On his last day, Noriaki Kakyoin saw something he'd never even dreamed of seeing. Tears fell from those teal eyes of his friend as his face was contorted in anger."I lost Avdol, Iggy, and the old man! I somehow managed to get the old man back but I'm not loosing you! There's no way in hell I'm letting you kill yourself after everything you've lived through."
Once he was pulled back to safety, Kakyoin had received quite the slug to the face which did make him fall on his ass. Glancing up with tear filled eyes he wanted to ask Jojo why he had done that but he knew the answer. Rubbing his cheek, Kakyoin just laughed slightly."I'm an idiot I know."
The taller of the two boys just extended a hand to help Kakyoin up."Come on, Mom's expecting you tonight anyway." Blushing slightly, Jotaro just looked at his jacket and shoes which were tucked neatly near the railing."You wouldn't want to make her sad, Right?"
Grabbing the hand, Kakyoin stood up."Yeah."
That day, His final day, He was saved by someone just like he had saved all of those people before him. Now walking hand in hand with Jotaro Kujo was something he looked forward to every morning and Jotaro made sure he wasn't alone. His nights were spent at the Kujo household now after Holly found out he was living alone (She was ecstatic to have such a helping hand around the house now). Noriaki Kakyoin woke up every morning looking forward to that good morning kiss he'd give Jotaro and that good-bye kiss Holly would give both him and Jotaro.
The family life he had the Kujo's was something he looked forward to now. He wasn't alone anymore.
Noriaki Kakyoin was alive now because of Jotaro Kujo and he couldn't ask for more.
