Work Text:

It’s always something. Aizawa is always being called for something about his class. They’re rambunctious and loud and exactly what he doesn’t need. Midoriya was the worst one for that because he’s so passionate and well spoken that he leads half the class astray from the law. The time in Kamino was a perfect example about how reckless they are.

His students are troublesome but he’s glad that none of them have gotten expelled yet. He knows they’d make the next generation of heros better than before. Now that All Might isn’t the pillar of support for the hero community, they need heros that would be the shining light and beauty of the human spirit.

But the amount of trouble is more than enough for him. It’s Tsuyu and Ochako this time. They jumped into a fight to help a civilian. They didn’t have a hero’s license and yet had thrown themselves in without a single thought.

Tsuyu has burns along her chest and a broken hand. Ochako’s better off with a broken nose and fractured ribs. Aizawa marches in and is met with Tsuyu’s parents worriedly fussing over her. They must have come from work to be there. Ochako is asleep after the treatment Recovery Girl gave her to mend her injuries. They are fine enough for him to be able to scold them.

Tsuyu can see it coming and shifts, making eye contact with Aizawa. Her lip trembles in a mixture of pain and grief because she knows what’s coming next. But she accepts it with her head held high.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Aizawa.” Tsuyu says. Her voice is rougher than her usual croak of a frog. “We saw a little girl being taken though. We couldn’t-”

She breaks off to cough and her dad hurriedly hands water off. Tsuyu waves the water off, clearing her throat.

“Being a hero is about sticking your nose into business that isn’t yours, Mr. Aizawa. I will take the expulsion but I won’t agree with it.”

Aizawa is impressed and it almost shows. But he’s not here to show gratitude that his students disobeyed him. He can feel, in his frustration, his scarf rising just enough to get his point across, as he says, “I am not here to reward you for breaking the law. But I am not expelling you. You will be under house arrest in the dorms for the next two days. Get your school work in order when you go back Wednesday. I will be back to speak with Ochako but now that I am here I want you to know that you have one more chance. Step out of line and you will be expelled.”

Tsuyu nods in determination. “I understand. I’ll just get my hero license faster than.”

“Rest up as burns are tricky to heal...Good work.”

Aizawa sweeps off. He doesn’t look back because he needs to hide his smile. Tsuyu is smart and she’s going to make an exceptional hero.

He gets back to the teacher’s lounge and Hizashi is there.

“Expel anybody today?” he asks.

“No. It would be illogical to expel them now if they did exactly what heroes should do.”

Hizashi laughs loudly. “You’re such a softy, Shouta! Last year they wouldn’t have stood a chance if they did something like those two girls. What happened?”

“I see more potential in this years group.” Aizawa shrugs.

“Nah, see, I just think you like those kids too much to let them go.”

Aizawa shoots a glare towards Hizashi but doesn’t say anything. He has work to do and he doesn’t have time to argue useless points. But he also doesn’t want to admit Hizashi is right. The potential these kids show is astronomical. It’s something he hasn’t seen for a few years and it’s exciting to him. He wants to see these kids grow more with what practice they’ve been given. And even if it has to compromise his reputation slightly? He can live with it.
