Work Text:
Sebastian has lots of nightmares, and they are always about the same topic: his father. Even though it has been three years since Sebastian’s father was arrested, Kay’s boyfriend still struggles, and it’s as though his father won’t leave him alone even though Sebastian is safe now. It makes her furious, and she just wants to punch the bastard for hurting her Sebastian.
Even though they have happened so many times, Sebastian’s nightmares still scare Kay. A light sleeper, Kay awakes at the slightest noise; and when that noise is the springs creaking or a groan from the other side of the bed, she knows exactly what is going on.
One such night, she is torn from a lovely dream about stealing things when Sebastian lets out a groan. She rolls over and switches the lamp on, casting their bedroom in dull light. Sure enough, Sebastian’s face is contorted into a terrified frown, letting out groaning sounds as his head thrashes from side to side on the pillow.
She can’t bear seeing him like this, so Kay wakes him up in the gentlest way she can; she leans close to Sebastian and whispers, “Seb,” into his ear. When she says it for the third time, Sebastian awakes.
His eyelids flicker before opening wide. He just lies there, staring up at the ceiling and trying to catch his breath.
“Seb?” Kay says, and his eyes focus on her.
“Kay… thank you for waking me up,” he says, his voice wobbling.
“Not a problem. Was it another nightmare?”
Sebastian does his best to not whilst lying down, and his eyes fill with tears. “Yeah…”
“No, don’t cry,” Kay says, flopping onto her prone boyfriend in an awkward hug. “Don’t cry. It’s okay.”
She wants to kill his father for this.
“It’s okay…”
