Moonlight

Summary:

Bakugou is feeling upset and goes to Kirishima for comfort in the middle of the night.

This takes place a little after the Deku vs Bakugou fight pt 2 (slight spoiler warning for that if you haven’t watched past episode 61 but I don’t go into details of like specifics and stuff its just a fair warning.) I wrote this with the idea of how he might have acted after everything and how he might only let himself feel super down at night time.

Work Text:

The clock read 2:34 am.

There was a quick and barely audible knock on his door. If Kirishima hadn’t been used to the sound of that specific knock, he may have just ignored it playing it off as something silly like a ghost knocking on the wall somewhere in the middle of the night. Had he been asleep, he probably wouldn’t have heard it.

Lifting himself out of the warmth of his blanket, he shivered a bit as his bare feet touched the cold ground before walking over to his door and opening it slightly. Peering outside, he was met with who he was expecting to see; No other visitors would be knocking this late afterall.

“Bakugou.” He stated more than questioned, opening the door a bit more so his boyfriend had enough room to come in if he wanted.

His arms were crossed against his chest and he looked like he may have been crying. Immediately worry started to hit him. Why was he crying? Had something happened? Would he tell him if he asked or would he close himself off? Should he even acknowledge the fact that his eyes are all red and puffy or should he just ignore it and let him tell me at his own time?

“Can I come in or what?” He asked, cutting Kirishimas thoughts short. He hadn’t realized how long he’d been standing there staring at him, muttering a small ‘yeah, of course’ as he stood aside with the door opened a little wider so his boyfriend could walk in.

His boyfriend.

He still wasn’t fully used to saying it and every time he did he felt those damn butterflies flood his stomach. It was a miracle Bakugou actually felt the same way, Kirishima thought. Bakugou is the greatest, he could get any guy he wants and yet he wanted Kirishima of all people. It was still hard for him to believe.

Once the door was shut, Kirishima took notice of just how tense the other looked. He looked as if he’d been angry and upset all at once, which wasn’t extremely unusual, but the evidence of tears is whats truly pulling at his heart strings the most.

Deciding on his choices without weighing pros and cons, he steps into action and lays back down in his bed, pulling the covers back so that he makes show of the empty space beside him and opens his arms slightly.

“Come lay down?” Kirishima asks, hoping Bakugou will take the invitation. Laying down together and cuddling and stuff wasn’t something new, they’ve been dating now for a few months so it wasn’t a new occurrence, but cuddling together this late in the night like this has only happened a few other times before, and each time was a lot like this where one went seeking out the others comfort this late when they couldn’t sleep.

Kirishima didn’t mind. He would lose as much sleep as he needed to if Bakugou needed him.

Slowly Bakugou nodded, before walking over to the bed and sliding in, not wasting anytime before he wrapped his arms around his waist and burying his head beneath the others chin. Bakugou’s hair tickled his chin and neck slightly, but he quickly ignored it in favor of wrapping his own arm around the other and placing his hand in the boys blonde hair.

Bakugou let out a shaky breath before starting to relax into him. Kirishima could already feel the tension leaving his body; Every breath he took he relaxed more and more while he kept the steady pace of his fingers that were currently playing with his hair and massaging his scalp.

“Are you tired?” Kirishima wondered outloud. The time still read almost 3 in the morning, but he didn’t want to fall asleep before the other did, incase he needed something. He would stay awake till he did, school and all in the morning be damned.

“I’m exhausted.” He answered in a quiet voice.

“Why don’t you try going to sleep?” Kirishima suggested, looking down a bit to try and catch his boyfriends eye. Bakugou did look up, but when he did his eyes just looked more glossy than they did before and Kirishimas heart broke at the sight.

“Hey.” He said before cupping his cheek with the hand he had in his hair previously. He leaned down to press a kiss on his forehead, then his cheek, and finally one on the lips. After the few seconds the kiss lasted, he pulled away only to see a tear streaming down his eye. “Please talk to me.”

“Bad couple days. Thats all.” He answered before wiping the tears off his face slightly more aggressively than he should have, as if the tear had done something to him, before fitting himself back onto Kirishima’s chest and laying there with his nose sniffling slightly and his fist gripped on his shirt.

“Do you wanna talk about it?” He dared to ask after a few moment of silence. He kept his voice impossibly quiet, afraid he might somehow disturb the atmosphere around them with simply a few words.

“I just really wanted to see you. I’ll be fine. Like I said, bad couple days but its not like I can’t handle that or something.” He responded. The words flowed from his mouth with ease and his grip on his shirt loosened slightly when he did as if trying to convince himself to calm down and focus on where he is now instead of where the bad thoughts in his mind are bringing him.

Kirishima looped his arm around his boyfriend once again, this time letting it rest around his waist as his fingers trailed up and down his back slightly in a relaxing motion that sent slight shivers down Bakugou’s spine.

“Of course you can, you’re strong. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have bad days.”

The words hit Bakugou harder than Kirishima would ever realize. He’d have nothing but the daily mantra of “I’m weak I’m weak I’m weak” for the past couple days but Kirishima had a point. Its a bad couple days, that wouldn’t automatically make him weak right? It wouldn’t erase everything he’s done to become as strong as he is today and how strong he will surely be one day when he’s the number one hero.

Sometimes Bakugou wondered just how the other knew exactly what to say without even knowing the half of whats going on in his head. Fully seeming to understand just how weak and down he’s felt after letting his guard down to Deku about just how much he’s been carrying on his shoulders, something Kirishima doesn’t even know the context of, and yet still knows the root of what Bakugou needed to hear.

At moments like these, perhaps Bakugou felt too lucky.

“Love you.” Bakugou muttered into the fabric of the others shirt, half hoping the sound would be too muffled for the other to hear but at the same time he hoped he’d hear it and say it back. It was the only thought that came to mind that felt appropriate to say, the only thing he wanted to say right now.

Bakugou hadn’t actually said it back before, the both of them seemed to realize at the same time. Kirishima had never pushed the other to respond if he wasn’t ready to, and instead this was the first time he had actually said it let alone said it first.

“You know I love you too.” Kirishima replied with a smile, his heart beat skyrocketing in a way he was sure Bakugou could definitely hear.

“Yeah well. You better.” He replied, already feeling a slight blush making its way onto his cheeks much like it does everytime Kirishima says that to him. Determined to hide his face more from view, he made himself slightly more comfortable against his boyfriends chest and let out a small sigh as he willed his warm cheeks to go back to normal.

He should probably head back to his own room. Probably. Definitely. But thats much too far away for Bakugou’s liking, and Kirishima won’t be there so whats the point?

If he wanted the other to leave his room for the night to sleep in his own bed, he never mentioned it, and Bakugou took that as an invitation to let himself start to doze off. Hopefully Kirishima didn’t insist on talking about Bakugou’s crying more in the morning, he would much rather leave that here and act as though it didn’t happen in the morning.

“Really though, you should try and get some sleep.” Kirishima suggested. Bakugou responded with only a small hum, as he was already planning to get some rest before Kirishima had even suggested it. Bakugou faintly remembers feeling his boyfriend place kisses on his head and his fingers making their way back into his hair before letting himself fully give in to sleep.

One of the best nights rest he’s had in awhile.
