Traffic

Summary:

Sebastian and Kay get caught in a traffic jam.

Work Text:

“We’re going to the movies!” Kay says in a sing-song voice, drumming her hands against the steering wheel. “We’re going to the movies!”

Sebastian smiles fondly, gripping his baton as he watches his silly girlfriend drive. Of course, he’s looking forwards to seeing a movie, but Kay’s behaviour makes him think they’re doing something amazingly exciting.

The car turns a corner… and they’re faced by a traffic jam stretching as far as they can see.

“Oh crap,” Kay says, her silly singing grinding to a halt as she slams the brakes on.

Sebastian jolts him his seat at the sudden movement, glancing at Kay. “Oh dear.”

“We’re going to miss the movie, aren’t we?” Kay says, still drumming her hands against the steering wheel, but now too fast and irregularly.

“Probably,” Sebastian mumbles, sighing. “Why does this sort of thing always happen to me? I’ve got incredibly bad luck.”

“Nah, I don’t think there’s such a thing as luck, Seb,” she says, reaching for his gloved hand and interlocking their fingers. She squeezes his hand, adding, “This is just a load of crap. It’s certainly not your fault.”

Sebastian smiles, squeezing her hand in return. “Thank you. But… we’re going to be here for a while. What should we do? You’ll get bored, won’t you?”

“Are you saying I’ve got a short attention span?” Kay says, raising her eyebrows in mock offense.

“Well it is a trait of your diagnosis, so, yes,” Sebastian says, smiling.

Kay can’t keep a straight face any long and bursts into giggles, leans across the car and gives Sebastian a kiss. “Yeah, you’re right.”

Sebastian smiles, kissing her back as he clings to his conducting baton. “I guess if I had to be stuck here, I’m glad it’s with you.”

Kay grins. “Me too, Seb.”
