Chapter Text
Gray clouds covered the sky, not an inch of sunlight being shone through. As the clouds continued rolling in, a deep rumbling sound was heard, as warning for any unsuspected victim that might be out at this time. Tiny sparks of light soon followed, going on and off, and with one final warning of thunder, rain drizzled down onto the Earth.
Midoriya Izuku thought it was perfect weather for this day.
He, along with several others, stood tall, dressed down in black, a seldom look on his face. There's a tinge of pink in his scerla, green eyes that once sparkled with pure joy now dull and lifeless. His lips were pressed together in a tight frown, skin a bit pale and now wet. By his side, his hands were curled into a ball, tight with his fingernails pressing hard into his palm. He ignores it, ignores the slight sting, as he stared at the grave before him.

Cool Best Friend
Beloved By All
RIP
Time seem to slow, the sounds of Mitsuki crying being drowned out by the rain, as he continued to stare at the stone. He wasn't exactly sure how long they stood there, when he saw them lower the casket down into the ground, but for Izuku, everything just stopped working.
It's just like All-Might, his thoughts whispered and he swallowed around the tightness of his throat, pushing away the burning sensation in his eyes. It's just like All-Might. I lost another important person. He clenched his teeth, visibly shaking. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he felt someone - probably Ochako - touch his shoulder, but he paid it no mind. At this moment, nothing else mattered except....
Katsuki is dead.
The funeral wasn't long, and after a while, the majority of people were leaving once the rain started to really pour. Izuku didn't care about that as he still sat near Katsuki's grave, still staring at the stone with a hopelessly lost look on his face. Worried, Ochako approached him.
"Deku," She whispered, squatting down next to him. "I...I..." At the moment, everything she had wanted to say left her, opening and closing her mouth with no words coming out. Before she could gather her thoughts, Izuku spoke.
"I never told him," He said, not facing her. "I never told him how much I....I loved him. I always told him he was a great hero and that I admired him. I wanted to be his partner, I dreamt of it for so long. But there was never enough time, and after everything we been through, I thought....I thought..." He started to choke, a single tear falling down his face, followed by more. "I thought after we became heroes, he started to see me as his equal. He did. And I was happy. But more than anything, I wanted to be by his side - in everything. In partnership, in friendship, in....in....in marriage," He whimpered. "He was always so hard to catch, to pin down, and I admired him for it. If I could call him mine, then I knew I was doing something right, but now...." A sob escaped him and Izuku found himself bending low to the ground, forehead nearly touching the dirt below him. "Now, I will never call him mine! I'll never know if he was going to say 'yes' to me! To a date! To marriage! I'll never know if having a family was what he wanted! If he would be willing to retire from the hero business and start a life with me! And worst of all, he'll never know how much I love him. More than a friend, more than a comrade."
By the end of it, Izuku was full on crying, with Ochako hugging him as tight as she could. She could feel tears clinging to her own eyelashes, her heart broken for Midoriya.
"Izuku..." She whispered, but Izuku could barely hear her over his own crying.
Why did you leave me, Kacchan?
Fifteen years later.....
A ring echoed inside an semi-quiet one room apartment, the rain beating softly against the window. A shuffle was heard in the midst of the sound, and before the phone could ring again, a scarred hand picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Deku," A voice on the other line started. "We have a mission for you, if you would be willing to do it."
Izuku sighed, rubbing away the sleep from his eyes.
"Do I have to come in for the briefing?"
"Yes. This information cannot be shared on phone, unfortunately."
"That's fine," He said, his voice sturdier over the years of continued hero work. "Lemme get dress and I'll be down at the agency."
"Alright." Then Izuku hung up before they could say anything else. With another sigh, looked out the window of his room, seeing the grey skies and the rain.
"It was raining then too," He muttered, clenching his fist. "I'm still not over it. Over losing you. If only I had been there just a bit more faster, then maybe...."
He shook his head. "Sorry Kacchan, I know you wouldn't want me to be sad like this." Izuku let out a chuckle, but he sounded so pained. "I miss you, I hope you know that."
Izuku didn't know how long he sat there, but eventually, he went to take a shower and get himself ready for today.
Life wasn't going to wait for him, after all; it really is unfair.
