Work Text:
Akutagawa woke to a cold room, feeling bare. The warmth had left, and he wanted to find it. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes before standing up and stretching. As he was getting ready to leave, he noticed that the curtains were slightly open. He swore he closed them last night. Curious, he walked to the window and looked outside.
Rain was pouring down, leaving puddles of mud in the grass. The flowers bowed under the added weight, making Akutagawa pity them. The usually bright blue sky is now shadowed with grays. A shiver ran through his body. The feeling of outside only added to the gloominess of the room.
Unlike what most people thought, Akutagawa didn’t like the rain. He felt uncomfortable when his hair and clothes got wet and stuck to his body. It made him feel dirty. But, his boyfriend gets excited every time he sees the smallest drop, a bit ironic since he’s a cat.
So, it shouldn’t have been a surprise when he saw Atsushi standing outside with his face upwards, eyes closed and a soft smile. The heavy rain beating down around him.
Akutagawa sighed at the sight before quickly finding his way to the living room and opening the front door to call out to the younger male. “Get inside. You’re going to get sick.” No response.
He huffed as he walked out of the warm house. Cold droplets hit his skin and he cursed himself for not grabbing a jacket and shoes. I’m going to kill him.
Although angry, Akutagawa couldn’t help the softness of his voice when he reached the drenched male. “Come on, let’s get you inside.”
Atsushi didn’t respond. This is how it’s been lately. He’ll get lost in his thoughts and suddenly the world around him disappears. He doesn’t seem sad when this happens, just… distracted. Still, it worried Akutagawa.
“Let’s go. I’ll get you some tea-”
“Dance with me,” Akutagawa eyes widened at Atsushi’s request. They’ve danced before, but the sudden words surprised him. He doesn’t get the chance to reply before Atsushi guides his hands into position.
“There’s no music.”
“Does there have to be?” Atsushi begins their dance, slowly moving. “Listen to the sound of the rain hitting the ground.”
So, he listened to the patter of rain hitting the wet ground. Atsushi’s scent became stronger, and it mixed with the smell of the rain. It was intoxicating, and in an instant, Akutagawa felt relaxed. Subconsciously, he closed the space between their bodies, feeling Atsushi’s warmth. Akutagawa loved that Atsushi was always warm, as though cold wasn’t a thing to him.
Their foreheads rested on each other, and their breath mixed. To them, the slow swaying, the cold rain, and the tenderness, it was perfect.
“Akutagawa,” his eyes opened, and suddenly gray clashed with yellow and purple. The boy in front of him was utterly beautiful, and Akutagawa was hypnotized.
“Yes?”
Atsushi maintained eye contact as he titled his head, making his lips brush against Akutagawa’s. It made both boys go crazy
“I’m madly in love with you.”
No longer able to keep control, Akutagawa pressed his lips against Atsushi’s. It felt as though their bodies were on fire, it ran through their veins. The kiss was soft, yet hungry. It spoke for them, spoke their love and need for each other. It yelled that they wanted each other, now and forever.
Maybe the rain wasn’t so bad after all.
