Work Text:
It was late at night and Shouto just woke up to get a cup of water since he drank all of his in his room. He rubbed his eyes blearily and waited for the elevator to reach the ground floor. He stepped out of the elevator and was greeted by faint sobs in the background.
Shouto noticed that some of the common room lights were opened and investigated on who the sound was coming from. He found Izuku, his boyfriend, hugging his knees and curling up in a ball on the couch.
He was honestly hoping it was someone else this time. He obviously wouldn't want someone to cry but this was unfortunately a common occurance. It started ever since the class found out Izuku was severely depressed, or maybe it had been happening before that and no one knew until he told everyone. It still hurt that one of his friends, more so his boyfriend, was and still is hurting. Even if this was the seventh time he saw this happening.
It looked like Izuku had gotten worse. The sobs were louder than before and it broke Shouto's, or literally anyone's, heart. He slowly walked towards Izuku and sat down beside him. Shouto wrapped his arms around him and held him close.
Izuku cried into Shouto's shoulder while Shouto brushed his hands through Izuku's curly hair. The sobs suddenly grew louder, heavier and more broken. Shouto had to tell him to breathe.
Izuku looked up at Shouto with tears pouring down his freckled face. "Sho... I'm sorry-"
He was cut off by another sob coming from his throat. Shouto hugged him tighter. He rubbed Izuku's back steadily. Izuku was bawling and he couldn't stop, at some point Shouto had to get up and get water for Izuku.
Izuku gulped the water down and started breathing normally, he choked some sobs down and wiped the tears away.
Izuku spoke again. "I can't-- I can't do this anymore. I just want it-- it to st-stop." His voice sounded so broken and cracked. His eyes had darkened like he hadn't slept for days, that was probably the case.
Shouto put his hands on Izuku's face. "It's okay to feel this way. You don't have to deal with this alone. I'm... here for you." Shouto assured Izuku, brushing his hands through his hair again. He's not good with emotions most of the time, but Izuku helped him with his own problems, so it would be bad to not to help Izuku with his own.
Izuku leaned back down onto Shouto's shoulder. "I'm so... useless.... I'm just a burden to you. I'm sorry..." Izuku whispered. If Shouto was at least a few more inches away he wouldn't have heard what Izuku said.
Shouto buried his face into Izuku's hair. "You're not. Even if you think you are, you're not. You don't have to apologize." He stated through the curls.
Shouto pulled away and wiped the tears from Izuku's eyes. It hurt seeing him like this, it always will, but Izuku always helped him so this is one of the few ways Shouto can repay the favour. Besides, he's doing this because he wants to help Izuku, who wouldn't?
Izuku's sobs stopped but tears still ran down his face, he took a few breaths to calm himself down. He rubbed his eyes and leaned his head on Shouto's shoulder. Shouto pulled him closer.
"Thank you." Izuku's lips tilted up a small but geniune smile.
Shouto smiled slightly at the sight of that and kissed Izuku's forehead. "Anytime, Izu."
They were silent for a while. It was a comfortable silence. After a few minutes, Shouto broke it.
"Do you want to talk about it or do you want to watch Disney movies?" He asked Izuku.
Izuku blanked out for a few seconds. "The latter... and can-- can we watch Wall-E?"
"Sure."
This might happen again but Shouto will be there for Izuku, like Izuku will be there for Shouto. They'll be there for eachother no matter what.
