Chapter 1: McCafferty's Bib
Chapter Text
The numbers couldn’t lie. Izuku never had known them to. Izuku adapted his life around his quirk since it had emerged.
“Sitting in the back of the classroom, on the far left had a 74.81% chance of being unnoticed by Bakugou Katsuki” said his quirk, and so Izuku sat in the back on the far left.
“There is a 0.641% chance of you or your mother dying within the next 24 hours” Izuku barely held in a sigh of relief, the chance had been slowly increasing the past few days, but it had seemed to fall back to standard levels, which was very comforting. Whatever threat was there had passed.
It was time for the final standard question of the day. “ There is a 98.6% of being kidnapped and held by the government if Izuku Midoryia registered his quirk”
Izuku was really tired of that answer, since it never seemed to change. The final morning bell rang, and the teacher began to drone on, Izuku spaced out.
Izuku was rapidly pulled out of his head after hearing his name said by the teacher, he snapped his head to attention. “-signing up for UA as well, right?”
The room was filled with laughter, Izuku asked a a question “ The chance of defending your choice to go to UA working is 0.7%”
Izuku bit back a response and waited for the bell. He hadn’t brought his notebooks today, the numbers claimed a 99.4% chance of them being destroyed. Too high to risk.
Izuku ignored Bakugou’s verbal jab, It would just be some empty insult, as it always was, Izuku focused on his headache. He really shouldn't overuse his quirk. Izuku stepped into the cornerstore, passing by the magazines with shocking titles like “The end of the world?!”
“The chances of the world ending in the next three years is 99.3%”
Izuku stopped in his tracks.
What?
The end of the world?
Izuku picked up the magazine and got an extra large drink.
He ran home.
All Might wheezed after dropping the two bottles into the hands of the police’s finest. He ducked into an alleyway, shrinking to his more ghastly form. He crept out, clutching his hero suit rolled into a ball in one hand.
He stopped to cough and then looked across the street, he walked home, still holding his bag of groceries, broth and pistachios really were getting old.
To put it simply, Izuku was panicking. This wasn’t nearly as important as when he found out his grandpa was going to die, or even when All Might was wounded shortly after the Toxic Chainsaw fight, this was big .
Izuku could barely focus on dinner, but he managed to finish eating with only one round of concerned questioning from his mom and a single sad look, which was surprisingly good, considering the circumstances.
His head was pulsing with pain but he kept asking questions.
“ Chances that Nedzu ends the world in the next three years is 12.4%”
Higher then expected, but that could be dealt with later.
“ Chances that the remaining members of the Yakuza cause the end of the world in the next three years is 0.0% chance”
“Chances that a natural disaster causes the end of the world in the next three years is 7.4%”
“Chances of a mass economic collapse causing the end of the world in the next three years is 1.6%”
“Chances of an asteroid impacting earth, causing the end of the world is 2.1%”
Izuku couldn't stand anymore, the pain was too much, it felt like his brain was being pulled in every direction. Just a few more questions.
The chances that a plague causes the end of the world in the next three years is 2.4%”
“The chances that a third World War causes the end of the world in the next three years is 1.9%”
“The chances of a publically unknown villain causing the end of the world in the next three years is 99.3%”
That was it! An unknown villain caused the apocalypse!
“ The chances of All Might fighting this villain before is 100%”
Finally, good news!
“ The chances of All Might defeating this villain and stopping the end of the world is 0.9%”
Awful news!
Izuku had a thought, and for the first time in hours he spoke aloud “What are the chances of the world ending in the next three years if I become a hero.”
“The chances of the world ending in three years if Izuku Midoryia becomes a hero is 93.4%”
Better odds.
Izuku could work with that.
He would have to, really.
Izuku headed to the bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet, and swallowed one of the Yaoyorozu brand painkillers. While they were very cheap, they were also incredibly potent. The headache almost immediately subsided, and he slowly headed back to his room.
Izuku decided that it was time for bed, hopefully he could fall asleep, he would need energy if he was going to save the world.
Izuku woke up energized at noon, he had never been happier for a weekend. If Izuku was going to be a hero he needed a plan, and a good one too.
The first part would be some sort of fitness plan, which would probably come along with dietary changes.
Even somebody without a quirk could become strong or fast, Izuku had a significant advantage though, he could devise for himself a perfect training regiment.
“The chances of Plan Become A Hero to suceed with standard muscular endurance training is 7.4%”
Izuku would call that a start.
After about two hours of planning, one Yaoyorozu pill and one portion of leftovers he had it, Endurance Plan 47.0, with a 63.7% chance of success.
Izuku’s master plan began with a run from his home, to Dagobah beach, to school and then back home. He would eat an early dinner and then head back to Dagobah beach to move garbage. After about a week of this the first change occured.
After moving a particularly heavy piece of machinery Izuku stopped for water, and then he heard a deep voice from behind him.
“You know, all this garbage can be quite dangerous without gloves.”
Izuku turned around to see a skeletal figure, swathed in a baggy hoodie and khakis.
“My name is Yagi Toshinori, that’s my truck, I have a spare pair of gloves in the back, and I could move that garbage off the beach for you.”
Izuku didn't move but asked a question.
“The chances that Yagi Toshinori is telling the complete truth is 100%”
Izuku nodded to himself.
“Alright, sounds good, thank you.”
He stood up to follow Yagi.
The kid was weird, Toshinori had decided. He seemed to think too hard about the most simple of things. He understood the caution when it came to personal information, if he had seen somebody who looked like him at the kid’s age he would be slow to give anything up as well. But it wasn't just things like that, it was everything.
“Why did you decide to clean the beach?” took a full minute for the kid to answer, and he did with just “Training”.
No elaboration.
So far he had sussed out that the kid was a UA hopeful and had either no quirk, a subtle quirk, or the kid was responsible enough not to use his quirk in public.
The kid was also determined, not in the typical way most UA hopefuls were determined. He seemed to be driven by more than just getting into his dream school. After about nine months of the kid “training” Dagobah was cleared.
The kid was definitely weird, but seemed trustworthy, and while he wasn’t comfortable handing over his quirk to the kid, he figured the kid could need some sort of congratulations, It’d only be a few minutes off his daily time, and as far as he knew, there was no emergency that day.
Izuku had finished the beach. He’d cleaned it entirely, all while practicing his quirk. Asking stupid, useless questions like “What’s the chance of my spine snapping if I pick up this piece of garbage”
Usually the answer was 0% percent, but it didn’t change the results. He could now ask many more questions before a headache began. He really couldn’t keep relying on those pills. If he did he would get addicted. A massive hand on his shoulder drew him out of his consideration, he turned around. All Might was standing behind him.
With a yelp he shrank back and started asking questions.
“The chances of this being the actual All Might is 100%”
“The chances of All Might arresting you for trespassing on the beach is 0.4%”
“The chances of All Might being mind controlled is 0%”
All Might looked concerned now.
Oh it’d been about a minute.
Awkward.
All Might cleared his throat, Izuku stared at the grounds. Those shoes looked familiar. Wait.
“What are the chances that Yagi Toshinori is All Might?”
“100%”
Well then.
What the fuck do I do now.

Chapter Text
Izuku shook his head and turned his attention to the living legend who was trying to start a conversation. Where Yagi was skeletal, with long thin limbs and a crooked posture, All Might was standing tall, with proportions more akin to comic books then reality. His trademark grin was present as always.
Could he talk to him without being such an annoying fanboy that I spooked off the number one hero?? All Might wasn’t supposed to be deterred by anything, but he also wasn’t supposed to be a living halloween decoration part-time, or be a friendly truck driver helping a kid move garbage. Could he confront him about being Yagi? Could he tell him about his quirk? After all, All Might had fought the apocalypse-bringer before.
Wait All Might is a government employee, would he be contractually obligated to register Izuku’s quirk? Now more then ever was the time for a question.
“The chance of All Might informing a government agent of Izuku Midoriya’s quirk, if it were to be revealed to him is 100%”
Fuck.
Could Izuku disguise his quirk as something else? He was already planning to in order to explain him passing the exam. But what could he use? Body language reading? Could he lie about the scope of his quirk? Say it only saw a few seconds ahead? Both? That meant that Izuku wouldn't be able to warn All Might. Would that make a difference?
“All Might being aware of the oncoming end of the world would have a 27.7% chance of surviving a confrontation with the unknown villain.”
Izuku swallowed and asked another question.
“All Might with knowledge of the upcoming apocalypse would guarantee a 100% chance of the world ending within three years”
What??! Why?!
Izuku bit his tongue, he would have to do something. Izuku looked around to see if there was anyone around. No. He steeled himself.
“Hello All Might...or should I say Yagi Toshinori?”
All Might’s mouth twitched. Perfect.
How did the kid figure it out? Was it his kids quirk? Wouldn’t he have said something earlier? All Might was confused more often then he’d like to admit, but it was usually things like “Why did I leave my fannypack in the sink” and not things like “ How did a teenager figure out my secret identity before any villain had”.
The boy spoke again.
“I saw your shoes and hair color were pretty much the same as Yagi’s, but I had to be sure so I said it and watched for a reaction. Your lip twitched and that pretty much confirmed it for me. Your silence after my accusation only helped convince me.”
The boy stopped for a breath and a drink from his water bottle before he went to continue.
“So All Might, why did you help me move garbage off of a beach? Don’t you have more important things to do?”
The silence made the beach seem much larger as he tried thinking of a response. He didn't think that lying would do much, and in all his interactions with the kid he never seemed malicious. Although, he had also never heard the kid talk this much either. As stupid as it sounds, maybe he could even the playing field.
“Kid, I could try lying but I don’t think it would do much.” Toshinori went back to his regular body, which felt immediately better.
“So I’ll make you a deal, tell me your name and I can explain why I helped you with the garbage and why I look like a corpse.”
The kid tilted his head up, seeming to consider it for about ten seconds and then responded with “Midoriya Izuku”
Toshinori slowly nodded.
“Midoriya, I helped you with the garbage because I had to watch as this place turned from a beautiful beach, like it is now, into a stinking pile of garbage. Heroism is about more than just arresting a villain, I firmly believe the foundation of any good hero is a want to do good, a want to improve the world around you, and this“ Toshinori gestured at the spotless beach around them “Albeit small, is an improvement of the world”
Toshinori swallowed hard, someone like how Midoriya seemed could be a great wielder of One For All, but it wasn’t his to give anymore.
That was young Mirio’s decision now.
Izuku stopped, considering All Mights words.
This could work.
All Might continued.
“Now the reason for my...crunchy appearance is a wound I sustained during a fight with a villain five years ago.”
“Toxic Chainsaw?”
All Might seemed surprised, and then let out a weak laugh.
“No, someone like Chainsaw barely scratched me, this was a fight I never made public.”
Never made public? Was it the unknown villain?
“There is a 99.6% chance that the villain All Might fought is the villain who will end the world within three years.
99.6%?
Why is there a margin like that?
A 0.4% margin,
Concerning, but it can be dealt with later.
“What was the villain’s name?”
All Might stiffened.
“His name is unimportant, he won’t hurt anyone anymore, he’s dead.”
“The chances of the villain that wounded All Might being dead is 0.0%”.
No margin there. Fuck.
What was I supposed to say? Are you sure? I might as well ask…
“Well if he’s dead then what harm could telling me his name do?”
All Might winced, and then let out a deep sigh.
“His name was All For One. That’s all I’ll tell you.
All Might turned around and slowly stalked off the beach. Izuku let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding in. All For One, a name. Anyone who had wounded All Might so horribly had to have something about him online.
It was time for something Izuku was good at.
Research .
Nothing. Absolutely fucking nothing. Nothing at all.
When All Might said it wasn’t made public he wasn’t kidding. There was nothing. No sudden gas leaks destroying a city block, nothing that seemed to suggest something was covered up. His quirk wasn’t kidding when it said there would only be a 0.8% chance of finding anything online.
He still had to look though, no stone unturned and all that. Although some of his time was dedicated to the search, he had to study, after all the entrance exam was tomorrow.
“There is a 99.8% chance of Midoriya Izuku passing the written text without the use of his quirk”
That was 2% up from yesterday! The studying really was paying off!
“There is a 4.8% chance of Midoriya Izuku passing the practical exam with the use of his quirk”
Well it wasn’t 0%.
Izuku had to pass the exam, the world’s future hung in the balance.
No big deal.
Izuku was as ready as he could be. He had eaten a large meal, brought exactly one Yaoyorozu pill, got a hug and a kiss from his mom and a solid night of sleep.
UA, was ahead of him. His chance of saving the world.
He sidestepped Bakugou’s elbow and steadied his footing. Bakugou sneered at him but he ignored it. It was easy to do really, after he had had so much practice at school.
“Wow! That was really cool!” Izuku startled and fell over.
“Are you okay?” Izuku stared up at the aggressively round face above him. “My name is Ochako Ururaka” she said, holding out a hand to him. Ururaka helped him up.
“Thank you so much! My name is Izuku Midoriya. Maybe I’ll see you at the exams!”
Ururaka smiled and looked down at her watch.
“Yeah maybe, but we’ll have to go!” Ururaka turned and headed towards the building, Izuku followed meekly behind her.
Did he just make a friend?
“100%”
YES! A FRIEND!
Izuku sat down next to Bakugou, pointedly ignoring him and listening to Present Mic.
“ CAN I GET A YEAH??”
“Yeah-ing has a 100% chance of endearing yourself to Present MIc”
It’s too late, the moment had passed.
Izuku started thinking about the written exam again. He had only used his quirk five times, but he (and his quirk) was 100% certain he had passed with a record score. If his written exam score was high enough, even if he did badly on the practical maybe if he aced the written exa-
“ And you! Are you even paying attention! You’ve been staring off into space for the past three minutes! Show a little decorum!”
Izuku winced and looked for the source of the shouting. Above him was a boy with glasses and a stern expression carved into his face. Izuku glanced to his side to see Bakugou grinning at him.
Izuku studied the pamphlet in front of him and started asking questions.
“The chance of the robots having a single off button is 0%”
“The chance of there being a way to disable these robots without a destructive quirk is 100% percent”
That is great news. I needed to find a commonality between them. Think Izuku.
Eyes. Their eyes.
While I’m sure they weren’t actual eyes, they all had them, set into a grid pattern. Buttons! They must be buttons.
“The chances of that pattern peacefully shutting down the robot is 0.0%”
Over and over
The same answer.
My head was killing me.
I met with the other students in my division. I swallowed my pill, the kid with glasses glared at me. I tried to ignore it .
Okay, game time. The buzzer went off. I waited. I had a plan.
I waited ten seconds, perfect a head.
Izuku couldn't afford a headache, if he collapsed now he could only count on his written score. Izuku looked at the robot’s metallic face and pressed on an eye. it blinked with a blue light. Izuku grinned and tapped in a pattern. All of the heads eyes pulsed once then the eyes dimmed.
What.
Was it that easy??!
“That pattern has a 0.0% chance of peacefully disabling a robot”
Then what was that?
The head detonated
Ah.
“peacefully”
I hate how much of a rules lawyer my quirk can be. Still, this could work.
If heI used them as bombs I could destroy the robots!
In five minutes he’d managed to dispatch only eight robots. He obviously couldn't destroy them if they were near others, or if they had already been dispatched. Sixteen points in total.
Failure.
“Help!”
Ochako, trapped under rubble.
He couldn’t think he just moved.
Head. Head. Head. Metal Plate. Brace yourself. Boom
A white streak shot into the sky, heralded by a triad of explosions. The plate slammed into the Zero-Pointer’s rightmost button.
Izuku held on for dear life to the pieces of shrapnel. He wished the plates were thicker, but he hoped that UA wouldn’t let kids shoot fire at a robot if their explosives were lethal. The world around him fell away in the sea of white light. He slammed into the giant’s face. His body seemed to move with a life of its own.
Left. Center. Right. Left. Left.
The colossus stopped in its tracks. Izuku fell. Ochako stretched out a hand. The zero pointer’s head exploded in a rainbow of dazzling lights.
Nedzu clapped.

Chapter Text
“Well, that certainly was an interesting exam” Nedzu chirped, rubbing his tiny hands together.
Nedzu hopped out of his overly large chair and paused the monitors on the ending tableau of the entrance exam. Nedzu turned to address the room. “So, where should we start?”
Silence filled the room, as it did every year. Aizawa sighed.
“Perhaps” All Might began “we should start with young Ururaka Ochako and Midoriya Izuku?”
A ghost of… something flitted across All Might’s features for a second. Everybody seemed to notice, but nobody wanted to mention it, so everyone made vague noises of agreement.
Nedzu skittered his fingers across the keyboard, bringing up the files on Uraraka Ochako and Midoriya Izuku as well as the last two minutes of the entrance exam’s feed.
The video unpaused. The Zero-Pointer emerged, a faux skyscraper falling as it did. Huge chunks of skyscraper pinned multiple people, only Ururaka was still in the path of the Zero-Pointer.
The video zoomed in on Uraraka, displaying her floating as many chunks of concrete as she could touch, until one fell from directly above her. The video paused.
“You know, she does display a surprising amount of situational awareness.” commented Cementoss.
The video unpaused and the boulder fell directly on top of her with a sickening crunch. Everyone but Nedzu winced. Ochako was shown trying to move as much of the rubble as she could. The video was suddenly blotted out by a wave of multicolored light. The Zero-Pointer must have exploded. The video is cleared and Ururaka is seen floating the last piece of debris, jumping on top of it and smacking the falling Midoriya in the face, halting his descent.
“He could have died, easily.” Aizawa simply stated. “She deserves at least sixty rescue points for that.”
Several stiff nods were given by the gathered teachers.
Nedzu took a moment and then nodded.
“Yes, that sounds about right. Now, onto Midoriya.”
The video changed again, to just before Midoriya moved to help Ururaka.
“Now before we begin I would like to bring everyone’s attention to a simple fact, Midoriya is registered as quirkless.” Nedzu said with a grin.
A few teachers sat straighter in their chairs and the video began.
The Zero-Pointer emerged and Midoriya whipped his head to where a faint “Help!” could be heard. Midoriya tilted his head up and then his eyes seemed to glaze over. He started moving...oddly. His movements weren’t stiff, instead they looked overly fluid. Practiced. Bizzare.
The kid barely looked awake as he jury-rigged the robotic heads to the bottom of the “sled”.
They detonated one after the other, and seemingly at the perfect moment to fling the sled into the Zero-Pointer’s rightmost eye.
Not stopping for a second, the kid pressed every button he could reach, waited two beats and then dove off the robot’s shoulder.
As Ururaka’s hand slammed into Midoriya’s chin the video stopped. Murmurs filled the room.
“If this wasn’t a simulation then the Zero-Pointer would have likely kept moving and crushed Ururaka.” said Snipe.
“That is true, however I’m not sure if we should reward such reckless behavior”
“Well, that is kind of what we’re looking for here, Vlad.”
“I know but-“
“60 points seems just as fair as anything.” interjected All Might. “All heroism requires at least a little risk.
The room quieted again, before gradually filling with sounds of agreement.
“Might I suggest Monoma Neito next?”
It was hard not to ask. Izuku could just ask his quirk if he had passed. But he was trying so hard not to. If he just asked it wouldn’t make a difference. Worst case scenario he failed, and if he did he could just apply for General Ed and just try to transfer into the Hero course.
“Chances of a successful transfer into the Hero course is-“
No, stop.
What could I use to distract myself?
Oh I know!
Hardline here
Ochako’s phone buzzed In her hand.
Oh! A message from Izuku!
Izuku: hey im being overtaken by entrance exam related dread. wanna go do friend things?
Friend things? Is Izuku okay?
Ochako: Oh sure! What were you thinking of doing?
Izuku: ah
Izuku: i hadn’t thought that far ahead
Izuku: is getting ice cream a friend thing
I would say yes, Izuku, it is a friend thing. Do I have room in my budget for ice cream?
Izuku: I’ll pay
Ochako: Sounds great! Where were you thinking of going?
Izuku: uhhhhhh
The ice cream had helped a great deal. Talking to Ochako had helped even more. They didn’t talk about anything UA related. They talked about favorite food, favorite colors, how cool All Might was, how cool Thirteen was. It was nice. Izuku had a question though.
“The chances of Ururaka Ochako keeping Midoriya Izuku’s quirk a secret, if told is 97.2%”
Am I willing to risk a 2.8% chance? Yes, yes I am.
“Ochako I need to tell you something.” Ochako stopped eating her ice cream, surprised, but gestured for me to continue.
I need to choose my next words carefully
“You can’t tell anyone about this. If you do I don’t think I’ll be going to UA, or anywhere really.
Ochako looked a little freaked out but gave a nod. I made sure nobody was listening.
“My quirk lets me predict the future. Up to years in advance and… It says the world will end within three years.”
Ochako did a double take and leaned back in her chair.
“You’re not kidding, right? Because it sounds kind of like a joke.”
“Not joking, at all. You’re the first person I’ve told about this. I… I’m not sure how I can prove it to you.”
“What am I going to have for breakfast tomorrow? Or for dinner tonight?”
“It doesn’t work like that Ochako. I need...variables, and its not as if the future is set in stone! It’s changing constantly, the chances vary from day to day, hour to hour and minute to minute!”
“Okay, tell me this, how likely am I to eat rice today?”
“There is a 98.4% chance of Uraraka Ochako eating rice today.
“Very likely, 98.4% chance.”
“Does your quirk seriously use math?!”
A beat of silence.
“Yes.”
Ochako leaned back in her chair again and seemed to just think for a second.
“Okay, I’m in. How do we stop the apocalypse?”
“I… don’t know.”
Ochako slammed her face down on the table.
“Okay so you ask the voice in your head a question and it answers, usually with an attached percentage chance of that thing happening.”
“Yeah, pretty much, you have to be specific though. It will usually give the most literal answer it can.”
“And the villain? All For One? He’s going to cause the apocalypse.”
Izuku shrugged. “There’s a 99.6% chance of it being him, but that 0.4%...”
Ochako nodded again. “And… we can’t tell anyone else? Especially not All Might.”
“Yeah, so far. I can’t even safely tell my mom! 96.7% she has me register my quirk and then the government drags me to some shady lab or something”
There was a knock on Izuku’s bedroom door.
“Izuku! Your letter came!”
Oh.
It’s time to find out if I got in.
Ochako sent him a grin and pulled out an envelope.
“I got mine today before I came over, and I figured you would too, so I thought we could read ours together!”
Izuku couldn’t help but smile at that. Izuku opened his door and gestured for his mother to come in. She gave him a soft smile and they both sat on his bed.
“So… Ochako want to go first?”
She gave a little laugh and smiled before slowly opening the envelope, making sure the seal was intact. She took out a little metal disk and a letter. Furrowing a brow at the disk, she put it on Izuku’s desk and it immediately began to glow with a soft blue light.
The light gathered into a screen of blue light about two feet above the desk. The screen changed suddenly.
All Might?
“I am here! As a projection that is! Ochako Ururaka! Even if you passed the written test, which you did, you scored only 28 points on the practical, which is, unfortunately, not enough to pass.” Ochako clenched a fist at her side.
“However! What kind of hero school would we be if we graded just due to how many robots you crushed! Look at this video!”
The screen changes to a video of Izuku falling through the air. His mom gasped sitting next to him. And then Ochako slapped him on the cusp of oblivion. The video changed back to All Might.
“Rescue points! A secret part of the grading system! What kind of hero school would we be if we turned someone away with such heroic inclinations?”
All Might’s grin seemed to stretch even wider. and then the screen changed to a leaderboard, with Ochako at the top!
Izuku stopped to read the Leaderboard
1: Uraraka Ochako 88 pts total
2: Bakugou Katsuki, 77 pts total, no rescue points, no surprise there .
- Midoriya Izuku with 76 pts total
- Kirishima Ei- WAIT I GOT IN
“-our Hero Academica” ended All Might, and then the projection collapsed.
I actually got in.
And in third place !
Wait, does that mean…
“The chances of the world ending in the next three years is 98.8%”
Progress! Now all I need to do is become a full fledged hero
“There is a 35.6% chance of Midoriya Izuku becoming a ‘full fledged hero’ before the end of the world”
Not ideal, but things could be worse.

Chapter Text
Inko was, to greatly over simplify, worried. She wasn’t stupid, she had noticed Izuku gradually retreating completely into his shell. She was glad he had finally made a friend but he had never seemed more distant. Inko looked at the clock, sighed, and then walked up the short steps to Izuku’s room.
“-t be a plague, I already checked.”
What was he talking about? Inko hesitated to knock, she didn’t know why, but she felt like she should wait.
“Hmm, there's a fairly small chance of that, about 24.6%, but its still something to keep in mind.”
Was it the same topic? Was it some game...Or was it like when Izuku was younger? Inko felt a shudder go through her body. No, Inko wasn’t stupid, but whatever quirk her baby had, she knew he had some reason to hide it from her.
But it still made her anxious. The last time she thought about Izuku’s quirk (despite the reported lack thereof) all it did was make her think of Hisashi.
After all, his danger sense hadn’t managed to predict the heart attack. But Izuku had, had even told her and she did nothing. She swallowed a heavy sob and tried to keep her voice steady before knocking on the door.
Izuku stood up as he heard the knock, immediately muted his microphone and swiveled in his chair before calling “ You can come in!”
His mom was standing in the doorway, and she seemed a bit off. Before he had a chance to do anything, she stepped forward and hugged him. It was...nice. Izuku crumbled into the hug.
When was the last time I had a hug?
Izuku broke the hug and sat down on his bed. Inko gave him a concerned stare. The silence was thick and uncomfortable. Both Midoriya’s opened their mouths to say something, but both thought better of it.
Fuck it.
“Mom do you remember when I told you I didn’t have a quirk?”
Inko stiffened but gave a firm nod.
“Mom I lied. My quirk...it's like Dads but looks into the future rather than the present. I don’t have firm control of how far it looks ahead, but in three years the danger-sense lights up the entire planet.”
A few emotions flickered over his mother’s face, notably immediate panic, vindication and concern, finally settling on tearful. His mom rushed to give him a hug again and Izuku leaned into it.
I really could get used to this again.
Izuku pecked his mom on the cheek and hurriedly walked through the open doorway.
First day, right. My head is killing me.
While the talk with Ochako had been enlightening, it still didn’t affect the numbers, but at least they knew what caused it.
“A combined use of multiple quirks under the effect of an amplifying ability has a 100% chance to end the world within 3 years.”
Vague, but ominous. Since it’s this All For One person credited with the end, is he the power amplifying villain?
“Calculating…”
Huh? Calculating? That had never happened before.
“70%”
Oh good.
“Recalculating…”
What???
“72.57%”
“Recalculating…”
Izuku stopped dead in his tracks, clutching his head. The numbers wouldn’t stop. UA was so close.
Fuck.
Unconsciousness hit him like a sack of bricks.
The first thing Izuku heard was the skittering of fingertips over a keyboard, the next the noise of a chair sliding out from a desk.
“Ah, you’re awake.”
Izuku observed the room, his head still throbbing. Izuku’s scan settled on a figure in pale purple robes, clutching a clipboard. Izuku recognized the figure, Remedy.
The cloaked person sat down on a chair next to the cot, and Izuku caught his reflection in the hero’s featureless mirrored mask.
“It says here you were found by one… Tenya Iida, collapsed in front of the UA gates. You are Izuku Midoriya, correct?”
“Y-yeah, uh, quirk overload.”
The hero hummed and scribbled something down on their clipboard before stopping and pointing the pencil at him.
“Is unconsciousness a common symptom for you after over exerting your quirk?”
“N-no usually I just get a bad headache.”
Remedy wrote something down again on the clipboard, and then stood, turned around and grabbed something from behind them. Remedy, now holding a cadescus, firmly tapped Izuku on the head once.
Instantly, the pain vanished.
“That should last for about twelve hours, make sure to eat before it wears off.” Remedy paused. “It’s a good thing you showed up so early, kid, otherwise you’d be late for your first hour.”
Remedy sat back down in the cot-side chair and started to scoot the wheeled chair back to the desk, aided by their stave. The chair was stopped short by a thin black power cord and Remedy groaned.
Huh, so this is Recovery-Girl’s replacement?
Remedy lazily waved their hand, gesturing towards the door.
“You should get going, there's ten minutes until the last bell rings.”
Izuku ran out the door, hearing Remedy groan again as he did.
Jeez, that door is massive.
Izuku pushed the door open slowly, as it made a loud squeak.
Great, Bakugou is here.
Bakugou, currently fixing a bored looking boy with purple hair a blazing glare, twisted in place and turned towards the open door.
“You…” Bakugou growled
Bakugou broke into a run, Izuku spat a question at his quirk.
“74.06% chance of-“
A thin grey scarf from behind Izuku smashed into Bakugou’s face, stopping him short. Izuku turned around.
Is that Eraserhead?
The man, scarves wreathed around his neck stepped into the classroom, shoving a yellow lump behind his desk. Eraserhead sat down, and as if on cue, the bell rang.
The room was silent. Bakugou silently seethed, glaring at Eraserhead.
“At least you’re all quiet, I can work with an active class, but a noisy one is more difficult to herd.”
Eraserhead fiddled with the yellow goggles he was wearing, took them off, and laid them on his desk.
“My name is Aizawa. You can read the orientation material on the school’s website at home. We have more important things to do, follow me.”
Izuku stood, shivering, with the rest of his classmates in front of a metal shed. Aizawa cleared his throat and began.
“Today you all have an assessment test, this test will help me evaluate what level you all are starting at. Each of you get to choose one piece of equipment from the shed to assist you today. Are there any questions?”
A thin, insectoid boy raised a hand.
“Yes Togaru?”
“Do we get to know what the tests are?”
“No.”
Togaru gave a tiny nod and dropped his arm limply at his side.
A tall girl with vine-like hair raised a hand and Aizawa nodded towards her.
“Shiozaki?”
“Is there a penalty for failing the test sir?”
Aizawa stopped for a second before a thin smile stretched across his face.
“Good question Shiozaki. Yes, the lowest scoring individual will be expelled.”
What?
“What!?” the class echoed.
Aizawa’s smile grew a bit thicker, before he opened his mouth to speak again. “Is that all?” Aizawa paused for a second, nobody spoke up. “Go.”
Everyone rushed for the shed.
Izuku ducked under the outstretched arm of a classmate he didn’t recognize and started asking questions.
“The chances of a crowbar helping you succeed the test is 0.002%.”
“The chances of a taser helping you succeed the test is 1.04%”
“The chances of a bag of chalk dust helping you succeed the test is 2.4%”
I need something better
A set of pitons brought 1.7%, a length of rope brought 3.6%, and a small hunting knife brought 7.2% but the sickle… the sickle brought a 12.6% chance, the highest he’d found. Izuku snatched it, carefully keeping the blade away from his other classmates.
Another minute passed and the class gathered outside the shed. Bakugou smugly stood outside, holding nothing while the other person he recognized, Ochako came out wearing a pair of clawed gloves. The purple haired kid was holding a microphone, a triumphant look on his face. Before Izuku could study his other classmates choices Aizawa spoke again.
“The first test is simple.” Aizawa held up a softball. “All of you get to use your quirk and tools to launch this as far as you can. Since you got first place in the entrance exams you’ll go first Ururaka.
Ochako strode confidently towards Aizawa , peeling off a glove as she walked. She grabbed the ball, wound up and threw. The ball rushed to meet the sky before disappearing from sight. That same thin smile spread across Aizawa’s mouth as he peered down at a small monitor.
He turned the screen to the class, which displayed a simple infinity symbol next to the line marked “distance”.
Izuku grimaced and asked a question.
“The chances of you getting last place is 47.58%”
Izuku let out a breath as the rest of the class began to applaud. Ochako gave him a confused and then understanding look.
Alright. I’ve worked with much worse odds before. Let's do this.

Chapter Text
The Midoriya kid was weird, Hitoshi had decided. The lack of flashy abilities, and the greenies reliance on the the small scythe he carried made Shinsou assume that he had a more mental based quirk, like his own power. But still, they walked with this weird nervous confidence, like every step had him stepping over a tripwire.
Now what did that mean? It certainly didn’t imply some puppeteer ability like his own, which, seeing as most mental abilities fell into only a few categories, narrowed the selection down considerable.
Most erudite-types like Nedzu or Apex were snatched up by the government or various think-tanks, while pre-cogs like Timer or Nighteye had only avoided such fates through the protection of powerful organizations like Haven (which was really worse than the government) or even a sufficiently powerful individual like All Might.
An extra-sensory ability made most sense, though usually those were hangers-on to more potent abilities. Still he saw how an extra-sensory kid could pass the entrance exam, if it was something along the lines of a power like Snipes.
“Shinsou Hitoshi, you're next”
Right. The test.
Hitoshi stepped forward feeling the crackling buzz of a new power entering his mind. Self cell-control? A bit clunky, but it certainly fit his second quirk’s restriction. Shinsou only wished he could choose his supplementary quirk, but beggars can’t be choosers, and when you made a deal with a person like Him, that was only more true.
Anyways, back to softball throwing.
Why is that purple kid staring at me?
Izuku took a step backward, and said purple kid continued to stare straight forward.
So he’s not. That's good, but is he okay? I don’t think he’s blinked for at least a minute. Though seeing as his arm seems to be growing, maybe that's his quirk? Body augmentation? Did the purple kid have extra eyelids like Monstrum or Naga? An adaptive power like that old silver age villain Chameleon?
The purple haired kid finally swiveled their head, focused on some point in the horizon and threw.
“246 meters!” the device in Aizawa’s hand chirped.
That was much further then what Izuku had managed, even when he was using the sickle like a bat, and had the best possible strike, he had barely made 70 meters, let alone 246!
The next test was similarly difficult to manipulate, just a quick dash. Sure, he did beat a few people in that, but only because only a few in his class had mobility based quirks, the most impressive of them being a teleporter, Kurogiri Taro or something like that.
The next test was easier, but not by much, as it was a great test for his tool. A few stands with tatami were arranged, the test being to cut through them as quickly as possible, and the surprisingly sharp sickle proved useful.
Ochako managed to saw through hers fairly quickly, while the insectoid boy next to her cleaved through his in seconds. Bakugou surprisingly took the longest, as “incinerating the mats to cinders” was deemed not cutting them. The purple kid fashioned some sort of sharp bone from the back of their arm, cutting through theirs in comparable speed to the mantid a few stands down.
The fourth test was actually pretty perfect for Izuku. While he didn’t actually possess danger sense, he could mimic it with a few quick questions, allowing him to dart through the minefield set up. Bakugou of course rocketed above it, while the swirling purple fog that made up the teleporter simply creeped over the ground, triggering nothing.
The insectoid kid very slowly and methodically navigated the field, Ochako and a few others doing the same.
What’d the purple kid do this time? Oh, sprout horrible and tall spider legs of course, allowing him to cross in only two strides.
The next test was a brick wall. Izuku used his sickle like an impromptu piton/ice ax, ochako managed to float herself on top, with a very nauseous expression on her face. The purple kid however seemed to decide to climb the wall without any quirk-assistance, instead using the thick hunting knife he had picked from the shed.
The next tests were simply...normal. Things where tools were mostly useless. Sure the physically-quirked kids were excelling at these, but no more then they had excelled at the other tests. The problem was, that they were tests where asking questions did nothing. There really wasn't much to ask on a grip strength test, or on a horizontal leap.
And then, their came the final test. Aizawa cleared his throat.
“Alright. You’ve all done well today, but there's just one more test.” Aizawa pulled out a small silver ball, a glowing red dot on it.
“This ball is from our support department. It uses some limited teleportation to move from place to place.”
The ball disappeared from his hand in a flash of red light.
“Your task is to find this ball and tell me where it is.”
Oh, this can work.
What are the chances the ball is on his person.
Hitoshi raised his hand, this test was perfect for brainwashing!
“Yes Shinsou?”
“Could I ask a question?”
Looking confused, Aizawa stared at Shinsou for a second and then began to answer “Sure, what is-“
Checkmate.
Hitoshi took a step forward, and while walking said “Could you tell me where the ball is?”.
Aizawa’s mouth stiffened and slowly creaked open, like a bear trap being pried with a crowbar, but before he could answer, a wooden handle was tossed into Aizawa’s shoulder. Hitoshi whipped around.
The green kid.
The green kid stood, holding a sickle blade in one hand and a screw in the other.
“Aizawa, the ball is in the folds of your scarf, the one right under your chin.”
Aizawa gave a weird smile, like a fish with human teeth, and then extracted the ball from the fold of scarf under his chin.
“Not bad Midoriya, what gave it away?”
The green kid froze for a second before choking out “ Uh. The scarf’s fold changed a little when the ball teleported.”
Aizawa seemed to accept this, giving a few small nods, before taking out a megaphone and calmly stated through it that “anyone who wasn’t back in two minutes would have their ranking reduced.”
Everyone returned very quickly. And then, with no further theatrics, a pale blue hologram winked into thin air displaying…. Hitoshiin 16th place and… The green kid, Midoriya Izuku was in 19th. Beating out a kid with frizzy yellow hair that smelled like ozone. Kaminari Denki, apparently.
Aizawa gave that weird toothy smile again before turning to the students again. The screen winked out of existence.
With a bored expression he began to speak.
“Anyways, I lied, nobody is getting expelled today. Anyways, have a good afternoon. Make sure to read the orientation materials on the website.”
Dead silence. Aizawa slowly started walking towards the buildings ahead. Hitoshidecided to do the same, walking away as he heard chaos unleashed behind him.
Would the brat be back from his first day yet?
The blue haired man shot his bloodshot eyes to the clock.
Yes, he would.
He took out the thin black phone from his hoodie, and dialed Shinsou’s phone number.
“Yo, whats up Kingmaker, calling in to check on lil’ ol me?”
Shigaraki barely suppressed a growl.
Breathe. Think of the sessions with Dr. Yamada.
“I came to ask if you’ve seen anything suspicious that might be connected to my former…”
Shigaraki wracked his brain for a second. What the fuck even was Sensei? A father? Employer?
“Teacher.” he decided on.
“No, I’ve heard All Might is teaching this year though, so I might be able to overhear All Might if he ever starts talking about the fucker at school.”
Shigaraki allowed himself to sigh before composing himself. He would have to work with that.
“Did you manage to get your classmate’s quirks and names?”
“Yeah, managed to do that. Don’t have them memorized or anything though Kingmaker, why do you ask?”
“Are there any particular powers of note? Anything Sensei might be looking for?”
Shinsou started talking, and Shigaraki managed to lose himself in copying down what Shinsou told him, focusing instead on the fucking curse Sensei had saddled him with.
No matter the distraction, whether it was his sessions with Dr. Yamada, a co-op game between him and Dabi or even hearing the yammering of his most apathetic (and only) informant, nothing stopped it from hissing in his ear.
All For One was truly the most annoying of any quirk he had ever heard of, and of course his Sensei had weighed him down with a copy of it.

Lemme know what yall think of Kingmaker at epewrites!
